University of Arizona Forms Innovative Partnership to Provide Cybersecurity Education in Chandler

The University of Arizona (UA) continues to add to the list of programs available through its UA Chandler location. One of the latest educational offerings is a Bachelor of Applied Science with an emphasis in Cyber Operations designed to prepare students for a number of in-demand, cyber-related occupations in defense, law enforcement and private industry.

"As an emerging tech hub, Arizona is positioned to grow as a national leader in cybersecurity," said Joel Hauff, associate vice president for academic initiatives and student success. "The University of Arizona's Applied Science degree in Cyber Operations ensures a pipeline of experts in Chandler, and throughout the state, who are ready to fill in-demand jobs and equipped to drive the next generation of tech security."

Students that complete UA's Cyber Operations curriculum gain both offensive and defensive cybersecurity skills needed to step into a rapidly growing field with high-wage job opportunities. According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average wage for an Information Security Analyst in the Phoenix metro area is $96,660. That is nearly double the average wage for all occupations in the region, at just over $50,000.

City Issues Call for Artists for Public Art Project in Uptown Chandler

Uptown Chandler is the City's northernmost employment corridor,  home to nearly 20,000 residents and a  diverse mix of businesses that represents more than 10% of all jobs in Chandler. Encompassing approximately four square miles, the area runs north-south from the city limits to Ray Road and west-east from Alma School Road to Hamilton Street.

To promote business and lifestyle opportunities within the area, the City and a group of stakeholders came together a couple of years ago to kick off the Uptown Chandler branding initiative. A logo was developed along with messaging that highlights the area's central East Valley location and casual, eclectic and authentic character. Banners were also installed on more than 90 light poles at major intersections as a first step in visually implementing the brand.

As a next step in the branding process, the City is launching a public art project. Digital artwork will be installed on ten City-owned traffic signal cabinets located throughout the area. A Call for Artists has been issued and submissions are due by Aug. 18. The City's Arts Commission will assist with the evaluation process and it is anticipated that multiple artists will be hired for this project. Installation of the artwork is scheduled for October.
