Principal's Message
September 29, 2017
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
There is always something to look forward to at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School. Where else can you go to enjoy a "Star Party" one evening followed up by a rousing soccer game, and then attend volleyball games that keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time? In the midst of all the wonderful extra-curricular activities, students and teachers are working diligently to accomplish curricular goals and objectives. This year, in concert with the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, a stronger emphasis is being given to writing using a research-based approach. Teachers attended in-service in June at Strake Jesuit in Houston. They worked in grade level and content area groups to analyze standards and objectives and develop instructional strategies. During the summer workshop, teachers were able to share with colleagues from across the archdiocese. They will come together again on October 9, to continue the project.  Students will be doing more writing across the curriculum and writing to think. Our students are the beneficiaries of this exciting work!
At OLQP, serving the community is another constant theme. Students and families have opportunities throughout the school year to be "the hands of Christ" for our neighbors. Different classes assume the leadership role for these various projects. The food drive honoring Sr. Antoinette and Blessed Mother's birthday is in progress. We are also having a newspaper drive to benefit the SPCA.  Please send your items to school with your children. For your convenience, we will have bins in carline to collect your newspapers during drop-off next week.
Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
Counting our Blessings...

TiP Program
Duke TIP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented students. Duke TIP works with students, their families, and educators to identify, recognize, challenge, engage, and help students reach their highest potential. Now in its thirty-seventh year, the 7th Grade Talent Search identifies bright seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school. Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exams as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. In addition, they gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources for gifted students.

As families continue to recover from Hurricane Harvey, we are happy to share the following information. You or someone you know may benefit from it:

Also the Salvation Army is in need of personal items : shampoo, body wash, soap, deodorant, etc. If you can help, drop  off any of these items at the Brazos Mall office (M-F from 9am- 5pm) or take to the Salvation distribution center (the old Victoria Secret store) on Mon-Sat. from 1-6 pm. If you prefer to donate diapers to the PHC, you can drop off at their office at 327 Garland Drive.

4.      Another parishioner wants to let everyone know that Beach Resort Services will accept/review new applications on 10/9 for them to get paid via FEMA funds. I think it's on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. If you are accepted, you can rent from them & they will get paid via FEMA.  Check out their website & call them to get the application & information
