DEP Launches Electronic Permit for New Projects Affecting Wetlands and Waterways, Continuing Campaign to Modernize Permitting

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has launched an electronic permit system to provide landowners a more efficient way to request permit registrations for new projects that affect wetlands and waterways and get a faster response from DEP.

DEP processes at least 2,500 Chapter 105 registration requests for business, municipal, and individual landowners each year. The Chapter 105 e-permit, which is accessed through the DEP GreenPort (registration is required for first-time users), will save time for applicants and department reviewers, include online permit payment, reduce the expense of printing complex design drawings, and make information available to the public in real-time for increased transparency. DEP will also continue to accept paper registrations to accommodate applicants whose only option is a paper form.

Applicants are encouraged to send comments and suggestions on the e-permit to a dedicated email account: [email protected].

NACD Launches District Job Board

On October 1, the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) launched a new District Job Board feature on the association's website, where districts can post their job openings and employment websites. NACD members can log in to post a job, maximizing the reach of their job posting to attract the most qualified candidates from across the nation.

Job seekers can sort the job listings by category, key word, or location. Listings will remain available for 30 days, after which time they can be extended. This new resource gathers all district job openings from across the nation in one convenient location, free of charge.

October Urban & Community Webinar Focuses on Outreach to Small Acreage Owners

The next National Association of Conservation District (NACD) Urban and Community (U&C) Conservation webinar, scheduled for Thursday, October 18 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. will focus on Outreach to Small Acreage Owners.

The Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts will feature their Conservation and Agriculture Reach Everyone (CARE) initiative. The project vision is to provide information, training, funding opportunities, and technical assistance to socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers. The program also works to help the agriculture community learn about the unique barriers minority producers face.

The webinar will also highlight efforts in New Hampshire, where the Cheshire County Conservation District has hosted a series of community forums and market developments to strengthen connections between the broader public and their vibrant agricultural community. The Monadnock Farm and Community Connection, a region-wide coalition, is one result of these efforts.

There is no cost to participate in this webinar, but space is limited. To register, email Debra Bogar at [email protected]. Information to access the webinar will be sent by email.
