A Presidential Meet and Greet was hosted by Dr. Renato and Lisa La Rocca for the Psychosocial Oncology Program. Dr. Renato La Rocca is an oncologist at Norton Healthcare who has supported the La Rocca Endowed Chair in psychosocial oncology since 2009. This is the only endowed chair in psychosocial oncology in the nation. Read more

Volunteers of America Mid-States has partnered with the Kent School of Social Work to offer a unique scholarship and career opportunity. The VOA Scholars program started in 2017 and has had three students participate in the program, two of whom are now employed full-time at VOA. VOA seeks talented, compassionate, committed students who want to fulfill a practicum school credit that can lead to a full-time job at Volunteers of America.

CFL continues with its mission to professionalize the child welfare workforce by offering child welfare employees education and training that meet on the job training requirements and the opportunity to earn up to 12.0 hours of MSSW elective credit that can be applied toward a master’s degree in social work at UofL, UK, or WKU if admitted to those programs .

The ‘graying’ of the prison population relates to human rights, and correctional and public health. The Kentucky Department of Corrections (KYDOC) saw a 30% increase in the population of adults age 55 and over between 2012 and 2016 (Crime and Justice Institute, 2017). These individuals face numerous vulnerabilities related to health and well-being in prison   Read more

Launched four years ago, 4 Your Child, a Kentucky-based program that teaches fathers how to better communicate with and care for their children is led by Dr. Armon Perry. The program was recently featured this past Father's Day in the Courier Journal article "A Father's Day gem: How 900 Kentucky dads are reconnecting with their kids" 


The House Ball and Drag Scenes research photo exhibit shows the daily needs and strengths of the LGBTQ community from its own perspective. The photo exhibition is at the North Lime Coffee and Donuts shop. This project is funded by the U of L Collaborative Consortium for Trans-disciplinary Social Justice Research and the exhibit was co-hosted by Sweet Evening Breeze Inc. Read More.
Students in Action
Dr. Lisa Smith is a recent Kent School Doctoral Program graduate and recipient of the Guy Stevenson Award. The Guy Stevenson Award for Excellence in Graduate Studies is awarded to an outstanding doctoral degree recipient.     The award recognizes excellence in scholarship, leadership (service), and teaching which are the three main cornerstones of a career in academia.   Read more
