Reflections and Daily Inspiration
“The bread you do not use is the bread of the hungry. The garment hanging in your wardrobe is the garment of the person who is naked. The shoes you do not wear are the shoes of the one who is barefoot. The money you keep locked away is the money of the poor. The acts of charity you do not perform are the injustices you commit.”

Prayer of the Ecumenical Patriarch for the healing of the sick and all those afflicted by the pandemic

In the chapel of the miraculous Sacred Spring (Agiasma) at the Holy Monastery of Zoodochos Pege at Baloukli

On Sunday, May 3, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew offered prayers for the healing of the sick and the support of all those afflicted by the pandemic in the Chapel of the Miraculous Sacred Spring (Agiasma) at the Holy Monastery of Zoodochos Pege (Life-giving Fountain) in Baloukli. The text of the Prayer was written specifically for this purpose and was read after the Divine Liturgy, which was celebrated in the Catholicon of the Monastery by Metropolitan Meliton of Philadelphia. The Ecumenical Patriarch and Metropolitan Gennadios of Sassima, who is responsible for the Monastery, were present and prayed together within the Altar. It should be noted that according to ancient tradition, every year, on the Sunday of the Myrrh-Bearers, a Patriarchal Synodal Divine Liturgy is celebrated. This year , due to the current measures for preventing the spread of the coronavirus and the consequent restrictions on travel, the Liturgy did not occur as usual, after a decision by His All-Holiness,
SAINT OF THE DAY

 MAY 10 / APRIL 27
The Holy Apostle Simeon of the Seventy and the Kinsman of the Lord, Bishop of Jerusalem (102)

He was the son of Cleopas, who was the brother of Joseph, the be- trothed of the All-holy Mother of God. Seeing the miracles of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Simeon believed, and was numbered among the Seventy Apostles. With great zeal and courage he preached the Gospel of Christ throughout Judea. When the iniquitous Jews killed James, the brother of the Lord and the first Bishop of the Church of Jerusalem, by hurling him from the heights of the Temple and beating him over the head with a club, then this Simeon, a cousin of James, was appointed Bishop of Jerusalem. And Simeon, as the second bishop of the Holy City, governed the Church of God with wisdom and strength unto great old age. He was over a hundred years old when he suffered. His suffering was in this manner: During the reign of Emperor Trajan, a twofold persecution began in Palestine—against the descendants of David and against the Christians. Wicked men accused Simeon of being both. St. Simeon endured harsh torture and was finally crucified, as had been the Lord, Whom he had faithfully served on earth.
