Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport Celebrates the Grand Opening of Amelia Island’s General Aviation Terminal
Congratulations to the Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport (KFHB) as they celebrate the Grand Opening of Amelia Island’s general aviation terminal. The Grand Opening Ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 13, 2018, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.

The new terminal’s design honors the history of KFHB, which was built by the U.S. Navy during World War II to train pilots on the F4U Corsair fighter plane. The design of the new terminal was recently featured on the cover of Airport Improvement magazine.

The 12,000 square foot building will house the city airport administration offices, public meeting spaces and a 115-person observation deck overlooking the runway. The building will also be home to Bent Wing Flight Services, a new Fixed Base Operator named in honor of the F4U, whose nickname was the “Bent Wing Bird.” The FBO’s lobby will feature a half-scale replica of the Corsair, as well as a reception desk made from the fuselage of a WWII fighter plane.

The Grand Opening celebration is open to the public and will feature several prominent speakers including key individuals from federal, state and city governments, the U.S. Navy and the National Naval Aviation Museum. Live music and festivities will also include a display of vintage and modern aircraft on the field.
