WADE SARKIS FINISHES
RUNNER-UP in PLAYOFF
at NYS SENIOR AMATEUR
CANANDAIGUA GOLFER LATEST
LOCAL AMATEUR TO DO WELL IN
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP THIS YEAR
CLOSE CALL: Wade Sarkis of Canandaigua Country Club, right, congratulates Bob Hughes of Watertown after Hughes outlasted Sarkis in a playoff to win the NYS Senior Championship at Mohawk Country Club in Scenectady last Thursday. (Photo: NYSGA)
It has already been a banner season for local amateur golfers competing in New York State Championships - from Pittsford's Will Thomson winning the New York State Men's Amateur, to Jenna Hoecker winning the NYS Women's Mid Amateur and Tammy Blyth and Ronnie Levine-Ribble winning the State Women's Senior and Super Senior titles, respectively.
On Thursday, September 20, Wade Sarkis of Canandaigua Country Club came close to matching the State title-winning efforts of those other Rochester-area golfers.
In the 62nd New York State Men's Senior Amateur Championship at Mohawk Golf Club in Schenectady on Thursday, September 20, Bob Hughes of Watertown parred the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to win the title. His opponent, Sarkis, fired a 3-under 68 in the final round to force the extra holes, after both finishing the championship at 2-over 215.
For Sarkis, the runner-up finish was his closest call with a major championship title - and came less than a year after health issues nearly derailed his chances of ever playing competitively again.
Sarkis, recently finished in a tie for fourth place in the
RDGA Senior Championship.
"As I walked out to the 18th tee for the playoff, I thought about how lucky I was to even be playing golf," he said. "A year ago, I had to withdraw from the same event because of my back. At that time I was using a walker to get around my house and wondered if I was done with golf forever. I'm feeling very fortunate."

RDGA GOLFERS - IF YOU HAVEN'T
ADDED A UNIQUE EMAIL
to YOUR GHIN ACCOUNT, PLEASE DO SO
A reminder to all
RDGA Members with an active
USGA GHIN Handicap: if the email address in your player profile is shared with at least one more golfers registered in the RDGA GHIN database,we ask that you please provide a unique email address that can be attributed to your player profile individually. There are several reasons for this request including security, communication and ability to connect you to your scoring record.
As we look to the future and the introduction of new tools such as a new mobile app and GHIN.com for score posting, in order for you to utilize these features you will be required to create an online profile. This will require the authentication of matching you to your individual profile by way of your email address.
An added benefit of having a unique email is the ability to customize communications to you. This will allow the
RDGA to connect with you for your
Handicap eRevision, member benefits and information of interest to you.
Email addresses are easy to create via Google (Gmail), Microsoft (Outlook) or Yahoo!. These are just a few places to go to create a free email address.
If you currently have a shared email address on your personal GHIN account - or if you are unsure - please contact the RDGA at
585-292-5950 to verify your account information.
THANK YOU!
