A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 10 15 18

P arents and Guardians,

With temperatures in the 40's over the next few days, I think it is safe to say that Fall has arrived.  I hope you and your student had a chance to enjoy the warm temperatures yesterday because it looks like it may be a while before we see those again.

This Wednesday, October 17th is the first LHS Professional Development day of the school year.  All other campuses in the district will have a normal school day for students and staff, but it will be a holiday for LHS students. Administrative staff will be answering phones and available at the front desk if you need anything from the campus on that day.

Our PTSA membership drive is well into the fall semester, and we want to encourage parents and students to join.  The PTSA helps support and fund many of the programming events and initiatives that occur throughout the year for students.  Seniors who are part of PTSA are also eligible for one or more of the scholarships that the campus PTA organizations give at the end of the year.  Please consider joining the LHS PTSA by clicking here - if you have not already done so.

It is hard to believe that we are less than two weeks away from Homecoming events.  The Homecoming football game will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26th, and the Homecoming Dance will be from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the LHS Cafeteria on Saturday, October 27th. More Homecoming Week details can be found below. You may have noticed there is a student holiday on the Friday of Homecoming, and wonder why we scheduled it for that day. We debated on where to place each of the themes (Leopard Friday, Pink Out, Homecoming, Senior Night) for our 4 home games. We chose this date for Homecoming because it was instructionally the best option for students considering the 4-day holiday, the PSAT test and the end of the grading period.

Please take a few minutes to review the information below about upcoming dates and events.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School

PTA Announces Reflections Contest - Heroes Around Me
Heroes don't always wear capes! The National PTA Reflections program encourages students of all ages and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts. Through the program, National PTA, Lovejoy Local and Council PTAs, and PTAs across the country urge students in preschool through grade 12 to create and submit original works. This year's contest theme is "Heroes Around Me".  We hope all Leopards will submit an entry in one or more of the following categories: Dance Choreography, Literature, Film Production, Photography, Visual Arts, and Music Composition - reflecting on the specific theme. There is a special artist division option for students with disabilities to ensure all students have the opportunity to participate in the program. Students are recognized each year for their artistic ingenuity to bring the theme to life in a way that is personal and meaningful . For rules and entry forms,  click here  .  The deadline is Friday, November 2nd.
