LOBO Leadership Workshop
On October 4th, Los Alisos Intermediate joined forces with Laguna Hills High for the LOBO Leadership Workshop. LHHS Activities Director, Ms. Maxwell, took her Leadership class to Los Alisos to work with over 40 LOBOs in becoming future leaders. After some team-building ice breaker activities, students participated in a "Leadership Inventory" where they learned what type of leadership skills they naturally possess, as well as their leadership color. Students then broke off into groups, based on their leadership color, where LHHS students facilitated activities. These were designed to help the intermediate students learn more about their given strengths and challenges. The event was a huge success and both schools look forward to this vertical partnership in the future. A big thank you to Dolores Wirth, PTSA President, for organizing this event!
Mission Viejo Safe Schools Challenge Voting
SVUSD has partnered with Mission Viejo Police Services of the Orange County Sheriff's Department in a video challenge promoting school safety. Several of our schools have created videos and are participating in the contest, with a chance to win up to $5,000 to be used toward school safety. Their safety videos will be viewable on the Mission Viejo Police Services (MVPS) Instagram and Facebook pages (search "ocsdmissionviejo") beginning Monday, October 15. Winners will be determined by videos receiving the most amount of "likes" on the original video postings on the MVPS social media ( voting ends 10/18/18), as well as by the amount of participants their school has at the Red Ribbon Rally at MVHS on October 20. Additional details on the contest and voting may be found through the MVPS website. Good luck to all of our schools that are participating!
THHS College Fair
On Tuesday, Oct. 2, Trabuco Hills High School hosted its annual College Fair. The event was organized by their PTSA, which brought in over 140 colleges and universities, as well as trade schools. Students had an opportunity to speak with college representatives and find out what various colleges have to offer. The evening also included seminars on an array of college-related topics.
Thank America's Teachers
Farmers Insurance is donating a million dollars to the "Thank America's Teachers" program. This year, by popular votes, 180 teachers will each receive a $2,500 grant for their classrooms. Sean Fletcher, teacher at Serrano Intermediate, had his grant proposal approved and is one of the teachers eligible for the prizes. You may vote for Sean, and read about how the grant would impact his students, by clicking on the link below and entering his last name. Voting will be open throughout October. Good luck, Sean!
