Our 7th and 8th grade students received a special class on art appreciation at the
Hofstra Museum, and also toured the Hofstra campus to enjoy the
outdoor sculptures and sights.  See more pictures below.
Greetings from Mr. Gault

We have already finished seven full weeks of school. It has been seven weeks packed with many varied lessons and educational experiences.  The fifth graders enjoyed their time on the farm participating in the Farm for City Kids Program in Reading, Vermont. The eighth-grade class joined them at the farm for the Adventure Learning Program.  During their week long adventure, they learned survival skills, a healthy respect for the environment and an appreciation of God's creation.   Seventh grade had a wonderful field trip to the Fire Island Lighthouse. They had an opportunity to climb the lighthouse, learn about its history and participate in a guided nature walk. For several students, this was their first time visiting a beach.  Our 7th and 8th grade students visited the Hofstra Art Museum and enjoyed the day exploring the museum and the Hofstra University campus.  Follow up lessons conducted at school by the museum staff will invite the students to create an art work of their own, based on the artist or art work they learned about during their visit to the museum. When many schools and school districts are cutting back on Arts programs, our students will have the opportunity to explore this amazing art educational program thanks to the generosity of Beth and Ken Motschwiller.

October is also the month of standardized testing here at school.   On October 2, 3, and 4 the seventh grade wrote the Cognitive Abilities Test (Cogats), which indicates what their individual abilities are. From 9-17 October, all students sat for the IOWA Test of Basic Skills for a part of each day. The results of these tests will indicate what each student has achieved during the past academic year. This is a wonderful assessment tool for teachers in an effort to focus in on the individual needs of the student.

The eighth graders are busy preparing for the Catholic High School Entrance Exam on 27 October.  As well as preparing for the CHSEE exam, the students have been busy over the weekends visiting the Catholic High Schools' Open Houses. It is a stressful time for our eighth-grade families as they try to navigate several hurdles and financial challenges in an attempt to continue their son's Catholic education.

Please remember to keep our students in your prayers and be assured that we remember you in ours.

Peace and blessings to all,
