Welcome, Nicole Evans!
We are excited to welcome Nicole Evans to the Midcoast Humane team as Director of Development. Filling a new position for the organization, Nicole will help to ensure Midcoast Humane has the resources it needs to meet its mission by increasing overall giving. Nicole will build the organization’s long-term fundraising and marketing efforts using her wealth of knowledge and experience.

Prior to joining Midcoast Humane, Nicole held various positions at United Way of Greater Portland (UWGP), including overseeing the organization’s community investments. Prior to UWGP, she was at Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals – Angell Animal Medical Center, and was the principal of a small public relations firm.

Nicole is a longtime cat-mom of two to her kitties Mo and Peep, and recently welcomed Maggie, a 7-year-old "bagle" (basset/beagle) into her home whom she adopted from Midcoast Humane. She lives in Cape Elizabeth with her husband and 8-year-old son. Reach Nicole at nevans@midcoasthumane.org or (207) 449-1366.
Use the Hashtag, Save Lives!
This month, we're pleased to share that once again Midcoast Humane is participating in Subaru of New England's #SNELovesPets social media campaign! We need your help!

HOW IT WORKS: Each time you use the hashtag #SNELovesPets in Facebook, Twitter and Instagram posts featuring your pet, our friends at Subaru New England will make a small donation to Midcoast Humane and eleven other New England shelters - up to $5,000 per shelter. Get hashtagging and help us earn some much-needed dollars for our shelter critters! All you have to do is post pics of your fur-baby (which we know you were doing anyway!).

Introducing the COLUMBO FUND
Have you been following Columbo? The Gorham canine resident Columbo is a bona fide celebrity, and we're delighted to share that we've teamed up for a great cause.

Columbo's story will pull at your heartstrings. The young dog was found on the side of the road near Columbus, Georgia, with significant damage to his hind leg. Passing cyclist Jarrett Little scooped him up to take him to safety, carrying the sweet dog on his back. By chance, they crossed paths with Andrea Shaw of Gorham, who adopted him on the spot, and covered all his medical bills.

Columbo and Andrea's story captivated the nation and was featured on People.com, CBS News, Fox News, and countless other places. The pair even made an appearance on The Rachael Ray Show!

After an outpouring of support from Columbo's fans across the globe, Andrea had the idea to pay it forward. She reached out to Midcoast Humane, and together we came up with the Columbo Fund, a special fund to help pay for important and life-saving non-routine veterinary care for our shelter dogs.
The Columbo Fund will help cover the costs of orthopedic surgeries, trauma and emergency care, dental procedures, and cardiological and neurological consultations and treatments. Specialized care is what saved Columbo's life, and it will save many more lives at Midcoast Humane!
Responding to Natural Disasters
Minnie is one of twenty kittens we rescued in the wake of Hurricane Florence. To help a partner Southern shelter make room for the influx of animals entering the facility immediately after the storm, we took in this group of frisky young'uns. They are now up for adoption at our Brunswick Campus! We expect to take in a few dogs as well as Florence recovery efforts continue and as Hurricane Michael's effects are felt by Southern coastal communities. Watch our Facebook page for more in the coming days and weeks, and come meet our ferociously friendly "Florence kittens!"
TOTES ADORBS
Where Are They Now?
ZOOOOOM!!!
Sometimes our critters wait longer for just the right home. Juno was one of those critters, who was easily overwhelmed around other animals. We received this update from his new family: "I wanted to share with you some pics of Elliot (a.k.a. Juno) who we adopted last month. He is such a great dog. He had a lot of fears (primarily frogs and butterflies) but has come a long way. He has learned to eat peacefully with our greyhound and the cat, how to play with our greyhound without being too much of a bulldozer, and has learned many commands as well as the purpose of chew toys….he will actually go to the basket of toys, gallop back to the front room and play with it…and repeat until the basket is empty and he is surrounded by toys. He does very well on walks and has visited the dog park a couple of times but still needs some work with male dogs. A couple times a day he will participate in the “zoomies” with our greyhound until they are both exhausted. It seems he has a favorite toy (a cow) that he sleeps with. It took him a while to settle down at night. Every furry critter that dared trespass he would bark at thru the window, then hide behind me. But now he seems to have accepted the fact that they can breathe the same air as him. He went to the beach one day as well as many car rides. He no longer has a panic attack at having to get into the car and runs straight to the car when we say “ride.” He is now front and center and loves to decorate my windows with drool. Please feel free to share on your page. Thank you and his rescuers for giving us such a great dog!"

MORRISON'S MOTOR IS WORKING FINE
"Morris (now Morrison) is so sweet, friendly to all, cuddly with me. He adjusted very quickly and is happy sitting on his window perches, playing with his toys, getting brushed every day. His purrrrrr motor is in excellent condition!"

FURBALL ALERT
Hi, I'm Oak!
Intake Supervisor Brittney caught our male ferret Oak lounging in his little hammock on a rainy day this week. We wanted to climb in there with him! We believe Oak is roughly 4 years old, but we know he's mighty friendly!

Oak is available for adoption at our Brunswick Campus.
