"This is the moment we decide who we want to be as a country. We have the opportunity to change because we have the right to vote," said Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) during our annual Detroit meeting last week.
In 2016, 42 percent of eligible voters stayed home. We are living within the aftermath of those that chose to remain silent and not vote. In less than 25 days, we have the chance to vote and reverse the damage.
Brett Kavanaugh's nomination last week to the Supreme Court was a devastating blow to our fight to protect our reproductive rights. It also erased any type of checks and balances on the president's executive powers.
We fought hard to block Kavanaugh. Everyone who made phone calls or attended a rally should be proud of their efforts. We may have lost this battle, but the fight is not over. Currently there are two lower court nominees before the Senate Judiciary committee that harbor extreme, anti-LGBTQ views, and more are expected.
We need to channel our anger and frustration towards November 6th, election day. Our challenge is to make sure everyone eligible is registered to vote and then we need to make sure people get to the polls.
Our candidates need your help reaching out to their voters. You can make calls from home or you can volunteer to knock on doors for your local candidate. Up for more? Join with JAC as we travel to Florida Oct. 25-28.
There are incredible candidates running across the country. The video below highlights a few of those candidates. These are the type of women leaders we need in Congress.
They are running against heavily funded extreme GOP candidates. SuperPACS are pouring millions of dollars into their races. Every dollar they raise is critical to their campaigns.

Trump & Co. Are Eager to Tell You What American Women Are Thinking
The president apparently considers himself something of an expert in the field of women's attitudes. Two weeks ago, Trump was equally eager to insist that when it came to the fight over Kavanaugh, women were "very angry," not with Republicans, but with Democrats for mistreating the judge. Trump added, "Women are so angry." Now, however, they're "extremely happy" - evidently because women were so eager to see Kavanaugh confirmed to the Supreme Court.

How the Supreme Court Could Kill Your Ability to Sue for Medicaid Benefits-and Gut Planned Parenthood Funding in the Process
At issue in the cases is what is known in the law as a private right of action. Broadly speaking, a private right of action is when someone other than the state is able to enforce rights under a statute. They enforce those rights through a civil lawsuit, or "action." Private rights of action can be either be express or implied. Express private rights of action exist when the statute itself specifically states that either private parties or the state can sue to enforce the law.

Unreleased Religious Freedom Manifesto Isn't the Culture War Compromise It Hopes to Be
In the coming weeks or months, a group of prominent conservative Christian scholars, plans to issue a manifesto on religious freedom. They are currently seeking prominent endorsers and, according to one organizer, they hope to have a "grand signing ceremony"- perhaps including former presidents of the United States. Though the document includes much on which reasonable people would agree, it is marred by efforts to slant the meaning of religious freedom towards conservative interests in the culture war.

Protests Outside the White House Could Soon Be Limited & Experts Are Sounding the Alarm
Back in August, the Trump administration proposed a rule that would limit protesters' right to assemble outside the White House and on the National Mall, prompting outrage from the ACLU and other civil rights groups. This rule would also allow the National Park Service to charge "event management" costs for protesting in these areas, which critics have described as a "protest tax." Experts say that if instituted, the Trump administration's protest rule could endanger democracy by limiting free speech, as well as threaten grassroots organizing efforts.

With Kavanaugh confirmed, the Supreme Court is likely to begin rolling back critical protections for people of color, women, and other vulnerable communities.

Writer and comedian Dave Weasel purchased the domain name Hon BrettKavanaugh.com and made it so that when users type it that web address, it takes them to the website for RAINN, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network.

A Guide to the Jewish Senate candidates in the 2018 midterm elections
There are 56 candidates for Congress who identify as Jewish. Among them are 41 Democrats: five are running for the Senate - three incumbents and two challengers. Among the 36 in the U.S. House of Representatives, 18 are incumbents and 18 are challengers. (Three incumbent Jewish House Democrats are retiring.)

Legendary French Singer Charles Aznavour, Whose Family Rescued Jews During the Holocaust, Dies at 94
Born in France to Armenian parents who fled the genocide in the early 20th century, Aznavour grew up in an immigrant neighborhood which included many Jewish families. It was only late in his life, however, that Israeli professor Yair Oron revealed that the Aznavours had rescued many of their Jewish neighbors during the Nazi occupation of France, hiding them from the German authorities who sought to deport them to the death camps.

The Jewish Major-Leaguer and WWII Spy Honored by Baseball's Hall of Fame
This real-life drama was revived earlier this year with the Paul Rudd film "The Catcher Was a Spy," based on Nicholas Dawidoff's 1994 book of the same name. Now the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, America's unofficial shrine to its national pastime, is continuing the discussion with a new exhibit, "Moe Berg: Big League Spy," which opened last month just ahead of the Major League Baseball playoffs.

Joint Action Committee for Political Affairs (JACPAC) is a pro-Israel PAC with a domestic agenda. We support a strong U.S.-Israel relationship and advocate for reproductive health and the separation of religion and state and incorporate other issues of importance to the Jewish community, including gun violence prevention and climate change. In addition to providing financial support for U.S. Senate and House campaigns, JACPAC educates our membership with outreach events designed to inform and activate their participation in the political process.

Federal law requires political committees to report the name, mailing address, occupation and employer for each individual who contributes over $200 in a calendar year. Maximum contribution per person may not exceed $5,000 per calendar year. According to law, JACPAC cannot accept corporate contributions. Membership, gifts, or other payments to JACPAC are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.
