School Photos Update

It was another busy and successful week of school portraits! It is one of my favorite weeks of the year, and I treasure getting to spend just a few minutes getting to know each of the amazing Peabody students.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the wonderful Peabody teachers for their patience and flexibility with the (hopefully minimal) disruptions. A special thank you goes to Aimee Nolasco, Mary Beth Perry, and Kathleen Olowin for their help this week too! And finally, sincere gratitude to Kimberly McCardle, who once again volunteered her time to round up children for me, racking up 10,000 Fitbit steps a day in the process! I could not possibly do this without her. I expect the online galleries to be ready the week of October 15th. You will receive directions for ordering prints and digital downloads then. Final make up photos will take place on Wednesday, October 10th.

As always, please feel free to contact me at with any questions.
Sincerely,
Susan Parmar
Peabody School Speaker Series

We are proud to be welcoming Dr. Joy Lawson Davis to Peabody on October 22nd starting at 7PM. Dr. Davis was an at-large member of the NAGC (National Association for Gifted Children) Board of Directors, a professor at VCU and an author. Peabody School has partnered with Dr. Davis to provide ongoing professional development for our teachers which commenced this summer.

Raising & Nurturing Socially Conscious Gifted Youth

"Today, more than ever, gifted learners are taking on leadership roles as they are exposed to the numerous concerns of communities, near and far. As very sensitive and empathic beings, gifted children are very inclined to question decision-makers as well as adults in their own environment about issues of social, environmental, political and human rights concerns. This session will provide strategies and resources parents and educators can use to engage the social justice needs of gifted children and youth."

Attraction Books

It is that time of year: Attraction Books are here! If you're not familiar with them, these fundraising coupon books can be used at restaurants and businesses all over the Charlottesville area. The Peabody music department will be selling Attraction Books to raise money for a number of exciting things this year, including a final Middle School concert at the Southern. All students in the middle school will be given two books to take home and sell over the next month. We have plenty more books and would love for students to sell additional ones if possible- our goal is for each student to sell three. They are being sold for $25 dollars each and can be purchased with cash or a check made out to the Peabody School. They can also be payed for online with EZPAY, by going to attractionsbook.com/pay and entering the code: Peabody. Please note on the envelope any orders paid with EZPAY. Students will need to turn in money and any extra books to Ms. Colleen by October 31st. Books will be going home with students today.
This Week in Athletics

The Peabody girls volleyball team beat The Waldorf School 2 sets to 1. Our soccer team finally got to play a match! They played hard in a 6-1 defeat to Charlottesville Catholic. Darius Mehta and Ivy Lyman represented Peabody at the Covenant Invitational Cross Country Meet this past Saturday and ran like the wind!
