You'll have to opportunity to submit public comment and can always reach out to LAAC if you have questions about the process.

Amicus Update

In re EasySaver Rewards Litigation
The Ninth Circuit has ruled in this latest case to address whether legal services organizations are appropriate cy pres recipients. LAAC joined with numerous organizations to file an  amicus brief in support of legal aid's eligibility for cy pres and coordinated a 9th Circuit-wide sign-on effort including legal services organizations in several states. The Ninth Circuit upheld the cy pres award in the case. You can read the opinion here.

Frank v Gaos Update
The Supreme Court of the United States will hear the Google case on a "cy pres only" settlement to various law schools and nonprofits. The case is set for oral argument on October 31

We filed an amicus brief on the case because of the potential impact on cy pres awards to legal aid clients.

Though you can't listen to the live argument, you can listen to an audio recording later.

You can also follow updates in legal news, on our Facebook, or on Twitter feeds or SCOTUS reporters.

Halloween is a community celebration that allows people to dress up in costume for fun.  However, Halloween costumes that rely on racial or ethnic stereotyping, cultural appropriation, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, or ableism perpetuate the systematic oppression of many marginalized groups.
