Community partners provide school spirit shirts for Cordova Villa
River City Church in Rancho Cordova made a promise to Cordova Villa Elementary to be a community partner and help the school and students throughout the year. Last week, they generously provided more than 500 school spirit t-shirts to every student and staff member at the school!

Everyone had fun wearing them at the annual jog-a-thon. Principal Tapia has declared Fridays to be spirit days, and invited all students to show their Hawk pride by wearing their shirts each week which say:
  • Have Respect
  • Act Responsibly
  • Work Hard
  • Keep it Safe
  • Be A HAWK!
"Dr. Tapia shared his dream of having a school shirt that everyone could have; a symbol of collaboration, teamwork and school pride," said Fred Hammer, one of the church's pastors. "It was our pleasure to partner with Cordova Villa to make the dream a reality."

Community members partnering to enhance our students' learning experience and support our schools make a big difference every day. Thank you #FCUSDpartners!

Peter J. Shields students Fuel Up to Play 60
The Fuel Up to Play 60 Program is a partnership between the NFL and National Dairy Council which focuses on helping kids eat well and get 60 minutes a day of physical activity.

Last year, with the guidance from P.E. Teacher Chris Tamez, fifth grader Jacob Dushkov (now a student at at Mills Middle) was selected as the California Student Ambassador for Fuel Up to Play 60. In Jul,y both Dushkov and his teacher were flown to Atlanta to participate in a Fuel Up to Play 60 Ambassador Training. Dushkov was able to meet other students from all over the country and many current and former NFL players.

On Friday Sept. 28, Dushkov joined Tamez at a schoolwide assembly at Shields to teach alongside each other, covering what they learned about healthy eating. A representative from The National Dairy Council flew out to join the assembly. Dushkov held a nutritious smoothie competition among students and their teachers using dairy, fruits and vegetables. Teachers were blindfolded and students had to guide them to put ingredients in their smoothies.

Congratulations to Jacob and way to give back to your former elementary school, setting an example of how to live healthy!
