HART CONSTRUCTION
UPDATE

Progress continues along the west (Ewa) side of the rail transit alignment.  With the guideway essentially 100% complete, contractors are making strides to complete the nine rail stations on that section of the project.  T he Hō'ae'ae (West Loch) station is furthest along, nearing 83% complete, with the Keone'ae (UH-West O'ahu), Pouhala (Waipahu Transit Center), and  Hālaulani (Leeward  Community College) stations not far behind.

The Airport Guideway and Stations section is also moving along well from  Aloha Stadium toward Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and on to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.  In fact, the work in that section is slightly AHEAD of schedule.

The Kamehameha Highway resurfacing project's phase one is also underway as work began recently in Pearl City from Acacia Road near the Pearl Highlands Center to the Waiau Power Plant.  Work is also underway to construct traffic upgrades in the area.  Phase two of the project (from the Waiau Power Plant to Aloha Stadium) is slated to begin early in the new year.

HART CEO ROBBINS ADDRESSES WAIKIKI ROTARY

HART Executive Director and C.E.O. Andrew Robbins was the keynote speaker at this week's meeting of the Waikiki Rotary Club at the Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach.

Robbins presented a detailed project update and in particular, spoke about the progress being made on the Airport Guideway and Stations section of the project that is currently running slightly ahead of schedule.  To date, near a hundred columns have been completed along the 5.15 mile section which includes the stations that will service Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, along with the Lagoon Drive and Middle Street Transit Center Stations.

Robbins also spent time answering the Rotarians questions and provided updates on HART's move to enter into a  public/private partnership (P3) to complete the City Center Guideway and Stations, and the Pearl Highlands Garage and Transit Center.
HART TEAM AT THE NATIVE HAWAIIAN CONVENTION

Hundreds poured into the Prince Waikiki Resort last week for the 17th Native Hawaiian Convention hosted by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA).

The HART public involvement team was on hand to provide information and to answer questions about the Honolulu Rail Transit Project.

The Convention spotlights public policy issues facing the Native Hawaiian Community.  It also highlights sources of funding, and capacity building of Native organizations, homestead associations, civic clubs, nonprofits, and businesses.
HART OUT AND ABOUT TO SUPPORT CHILDREN & YOUTH DAY AND THE  CLEAN ENERGY FAIR

The HART Team was out and about this weekend at a pair of popular community events.

First, at Kahala Mall, HART representatives took part in Hawaiian Electric's 15th annual Clean Energy Fair.  Held in  observance of National Energy Action Month, the event encourages conservation, sustainability, and a move towards a clean energy future for Hawaii.

The Clean Energy Fair is a perfect fit for HART as electric-powered rail technologies, like the one to be used by the Honolulu Rail Transit System, produce about 75% less in emissions per passenger mile than private automobiles.

A day later, the HART Team set up shop at the 25th Children & Youth Day on the grounds of the State Capitol and Honolulu Hale.  HART's LEGO model train and train building stations were a huge hit with the keiki in attendance, allowing parents to catch the latest information on the Rail Transit Project.

Children & Youth Day is celebrated on the  first Sunday of every October to honor our children and youth and the special contributions they make to our community.
