The Bowling Green Memorial Day Planning Committee cancelled the Memorial Day Parade and public ceremony due to COVID-19 concerns and state and local guidance.
A private ceremony occurred on Saturday, May 23 in order to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The ceremony involved: Frederic E. Matthews, Captain, US Navy, Retired, who delivered the keynote address at the Memorial Day Service at Oak Grove Cemetery. The National Anthem was sung by vocalist Evie Van Vorhis. Herbert Dettmer served as Chaplain, Mayor Mike Aspacher presented Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, Logan’s Orders was presented by Lieutenant Colonel (US Army, Retired) John Fawcett and a patriotic poem was read by Joseph Fawcett, BG Assistant Municipal Administrator and Global War on Terrorism veteran.
Prior to the service at Oak Grove Cemetery, there was a wreath laying ceremony at the Wood County Courthouse Veterans Memorials.
