Catawba County Cooperative Extension Service

Hi Folks,

These are wild times and I want you to know that we are here to serve you!  We have been directed to cancel all meetings, workshops, and in-person classes for the next 60 days without re-scheduling for now.  However, we are still working and we are still serving you!

Virus Victory Gardens:
I am receiving a lot of calls from folks that want to start a garden this year.  Contact George Place for your gardening needs: [email protected] or send me a text on my cell phone: 816-585-3864.  I am very eager to help you grow more of your own food!  I will start holding a zoom meeting every Friday to share some tips and allow our gardening community to ask questions and share info.  You can participate in the zoom meeting this Friday, March 27 from noon to 1 PM by logging onto this link. You may need to download the zoom launcher program ahead of time.  You can also test your computer's audio and video capabilities:

Local Produce and Meat:
Food supply is on the minds of many in our community.  Our local farmers are eager to get you fresh vegetables, fruit, and meat. Take a look at all of the ways you can buy local with our local food guide.  https://www.catawbacountyfood.com/

Lawn Care:
Do you have questions about managing your lawn?  Contact our lawn doctor - Dr. Adam Smith -  [email protected]

Fantastic Fungi Film:
The Fantastic Fungi film has been postponed at the theater but it is available for home viewing.  Take a look at this announcement from the Footcandle Film Society of Catawba County:
We are all disappointed we were not able to bring this film to Hickory for our planned March 26th screening, but there is now an opportunity to watch the film online from the comfort of your own home.
Visit this link to learn about how you can watch this fascinating documentary either through purchase or rental, as well as take part in a Live Q&A session this Thursday, March 26th!

We are still serving you.  Send our agents an e-mail with your questions or give them a call.  Here is a listing of our staff:  https://catawba.ces.ncsu.edu/people/
