Academic Advising
Most first year students will register this month (Nov. 1-21).  Students who have not yet made their advising appointment should do so ASAP. They can stop by or call the UARC at (920) 424-1268 or visit our website.

If your student delayed in making an appointment and now cannot get one before their registration date they are encouraged to work with a Peer Advising Liaison (PAL).  A PAL is a highly trained upper class student who can help them learn to read their Student Academic Report (STAR) and use TitanWeb to select some initial courses so they can register on time. Changes can be made after their advising appointment if needed.
Students should prepare for their advising appointment by completing the pre-advising worksheet they received from their advisor; making a list of questions for their advisor and a list of courses they would like to take.

All first year students will enroll in a QUEST II course for spring along with either Writing or Speaking, whichever they still need.
Textbooks
January Interim Textbooks will be available for purchase at University Books & More in the store and on their website beginning Monday, Nov. 27.
Titan Central
Has your student made comments that they have lost a few items on campus? Send them to Titan Central, located in Reeve Memorial Union! We are the main lost and found on campus. All Titan Central staff are trained on how to process any type of item and we have mechanisms in place to contact owners, if able. We also have the ability to house more expensive lost and found items securely.

Our extended hours allow more accessibility for students to contact us to inquire about lost items.

Please contact us with questions at (920) 424-1234 or email us at [email protected].
Meal Plans
We hope your student is enjoying their dining experience at UW Oshkosh. If at any time they have feedback to share with us, please have them email [email protected]. Please note that your student's meal plan will work throughout the Fall Interim (ending January, 19, 2018), their meals and Titan Dollars. Your student can check their Titan Dollars balance by visiting the MyUWO Portal. Any questions regarding their meal plan can be emailed to [email protected].

Fall semester Dining hours of operation can be found here.
November Dining Events
Our dining events are open to all students. Students can use their meal plans, cash, credit card or UWO Gift Card to pay.

Student Health
Please encourage your student to get a flu vaccination this year. This year's vaccine is a quadrivalent; containing two strains of influenza A and two strains of influenza B viruses. The fee is $15 and will be billed to the student's account. For more facts about the seasonal flu vaccine, click here.

The October student flu clinics have ended. However, flu shots are still available at the Student Health Center by appointment.

If your student is planning to travel out of the country, please have them contact the Student Health Center at least four to six weeks prior to their planned travel date. Safety precautions and health recommendations will be reviewed with them. For health recommendations specific to the country they are traveling to, visit the Travel Health page of the CDC website and click on destinations.
Career Services
UW Oshkosh Career Services is committed to helping students showcase their academic and professional preparation through the Career Ready Badge Program, based on the Career Readiness Competencies developed by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Ultimately, students can work toward earning the Master Level Career Ready badge by earning a series of Individual Competency Badges.

How do they earn badges?
Students can earn badges by self-enrolling in the Career Readiness Course on D2L. Once enrolled, students can find details regarding each of the badges, criteria for submission, and a drop box to submit evidence. Students can find the self-enroll course link on the D2L homepage under Student Resources.

Displaying Badges
Once a student has earned an Individual Career Ready Badge or a Level Badge they may display those badges on their social media profiles. Once a student has earned a level badge, Career Services will add a label to the student's profile indicating what level they have earned in Handshake. Employers will be able to then search for student profiles with the level badge labels.

For more information visit the Individual Competency Badges website.
Information from Residence Life
Thanksgiving Break
All residence halls remain open for the Thanksgiving break period (Tuesday, Nov. 21 to Sunday, Nov. 26). While front desk services will have reduced hours, On Call staff will be available daily.

End of Semester/Winter Break
The end of fall semester and winter break are quickly approaching! All residence halls will remain open during the winter break period until the start of fall interim (Jan. 2, 2018). While front desk services will have reduced hours, on call staff will be available daily. Students will be asked to prepare their rooms if planning to leave for the break period. Additional information will be shared during upcoming floor meetings in early December.

Housing Requirement/Room Sign-Up
Living at the heart of the campus community provides students with:
  • Easy access to campus events & student organizations
  • Proximity to academic, social and personal resources
  • The opportunity to build connections with their fellow Titans

These are just a few of the reasons why UWO follows and enforces the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents Housing Policy for students in their first two years (4 semesters).

Most first and second year students are required to live in the residence halls unless they are commuting from their parent's/legal guardian's permanent home within 45 miles of campus and complete a Commuter Card. Additionally, UWO will exempt anyone from the housing requirement if one or more of the following are true by the first day of a fall semester:
  • They have successfully earned at least 48 credits
  • They are at least 21 years of age
  • They have lived in a residence hall for four semesters
  • They are married
  • They are a veteran
The housing application is now open for all students at my.housing.uwosh.edu! The application will remain open through January 28th.  Information will be sent to all students regarding Room Sign-Up and the Commuter Card process.

Community Advisor Selection
Believe it or not, the Selection Team in Residence Life is busy preparing for hiring of Community Advisors (CA) for the 2018-2019 academic year! Many students have reached out to our department already excited about the potential opportunity to become a CA. We appreciate their enthusiasm...but also want them not to get too concerned yet. The process will not begin until winter interim, so they haven't missed anything! As a family member, we encourage you to talk to your student about this exciting opportunity when they are home over the upcoming academic breaks.

Community Advisors serve as a peer resource and support for students living in a residence hall. CAs focus on developing a strong, involved community by interacting with residents on a regular basis. They provide educational and social events in which residents may interact with each other. CAs also assist with safety and security in the residence hall though our duty rotation and security stations. The CA position is a 25 a week position. CAs are paid a monthly stipend, receive a meal plan credit and are not charged for housing.

Students are eligible to apply to be a CA if the meet all of the following criteria:
  • Have earned at least 12 college credits
  • Have a minimum semester and cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Are not on disciplinary probation with the university (The discipline history of each applicant is reviewed beyond probationary status. The selection committee makes a recommendation whether or not an applicant should continue in the process if the applicant has an extensive or concern discipline history)
The Department of Residence Life will be hosting Information Socials throughout January and early February for students who want to learn more about the CA position. Posters advertising these events will be in the residence halls at the beginning of winter interim. Please tell your student to be on the lookout for these for more information!

The application will be live on Thursday, Jan. 11 and will close on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 at noon. Students can apply by adding the Res Life Apps application on their MyUWO portal.  Interviews will take place on Feb. 12 and 13, 2018.

Being a CA is a truly life changing experience for students. Many former CAs indicate that it is unlike any other leadership experience that have be a part of during college.  We highly encourage you to talk with your student about this opportunity and let them know that they may contact their Residence Hall Director for more information about becoming a CA!
