In The Wings InterACTive
Enhanced Virtual Media Community
Launches Today
March 30, 2020 – The adage “the show must go on” has been a theatre credo since at least the mid-nineteenth century. But at this moment in time when shows, quite rightly, cannot go on, Palm Beach Dramaworks is ramping up its efforts to connect with its audience. Today the company launches an interactive version of its online newsletter, In The Wings, which will feature up-close and quirky short videos of PBD artists, take viewers behind the scenes, provide a space for patrons to engage in quizzes and other challenges, and so much more. Much of this content will also be available on the company’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

“We truly think of our patrons as part of our family, and during a time that calls for social distancing and isolation, we’re eager to reach out to them and let them know we care,” said Producing Artistic Director William Hayes and Managing Director Sue Ellen Beryl. “We’ve already checked in with scores of people by phone, and it was important to many of them, as well as to us, to stay connected as a community. That’s why we decided to add an interactive component to our social media, which we consider a new way to keep our audiences thinking about theatre. We also want to keep everyone in the loop about The Light in the Piazza – which was scheduled to open this coming Friday and which we still hope to stage this year – and our upcoming twentieth anniversary season.”

The initial offerings on In the Wings Inter act ive include informal videos by some familiar PBD artists; more videos will be posted in the weeks ahead. The company is also asking visitors to weigh in on how they’re doing, but in a unique way.
