Women's Leadership Conference Recap

The Iranian American Women Foundation hosted its 16 th  Women’s Leadership Conference on Sunday, April 29 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Over 600 women and men participated in the event, attending workshops, panels, and presentations with the central theme to “Let your voice be heard beyond limits.”

The conference opened with a personal message from Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and a resolution on behalf LA City Council recognizing Iranian American Women Day. The resolution was presented at the conference by Councilmember David Ryu , whom we would like to thank for his warm words of praise for our community and this organization. The morning keynote was given by the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Mahnaz Afkhami – Founder and President of the Women’s Learning Partnership, and the former Minister for Iranian Women’s Affairs. In the afternoon, the keynote was presented by former U.S. Ambassador Azita Raji before Homa Sarshar ’s work as a writer, award-winning journalist, and media personality was honored with the Leadership Award.

The panels throughout the day presented a range of Iranian American voices, from tech to philanthropy, from impressive careers to fascinating life trajectories; beyond shared Iranian heritage, the thread that connects them all is astounding resilience.

We owe our thanks to the Orange County and Los Angeles Planning Committee Members for helping us host the 16th Women's Leadership Conference on April 29. Each and every one of you made a difference; the contribution of your time and commitment to our cause allow the Iranian American Women Foundation to keep going and spread its message of empowerment, connection, and inspiration to our peers and beyond.
