Cleaning the Rivers of the World - October 21 -22
Salvador Rico, of the Rotary Club of South Ukiah (California), District 5130, has been spearheading a campaign to clean-up the rivers of the world.  Rivers are the source of drinking water for hundreds of millions of people. Check out their Facebook Page and  website

This project started four years ago, when his Rotary Club teamed up with clubs in District 4140 to clean-up the Ameca River in Mexico. This year over 1,000 people are anticipated to be involved in this annual clean-up event.

On October 21-22, Rotary clubs around the world (e.g. India, Venezuela, Mexico, Turkey,  Columbia, Ecuador and U.S.) will be involved in river clean-up projects.

WASRAG is excited about this project and will be sending out details shortly on how your club can take part in a river clean-up project on or around World Water Day (March 22, 2018).
Solar Powered Water Projects Conference
Rotary clubs and NGOs have been successful in developing a solar powered community water system in El Salvador.

The Companion Community Development Alternatives (CoCoDA) have organized a conference, Oct 27-29, that will highlight the best practices in solar powered water projects. The conference includes sessions on best practices, sustainability and a tour of an operating site. For more details visit Sun and Water Conference
Everything Begins with Education
The Water and Sanitation Committee of District 2490 in Israel recently held a very successful symposium in Tel Aviv.

An interesting component of the symposium was having high school students exhibit various projects related to the efficient use of constantly depleting water resources.

Summary from World Water Week
During the last week of August, USAID and its water sector partners held a World Water Week conference in Stockholm.

One of the many takeaways from the conference was "When water and sanitation are marketed and sold "as a service" that is governed and monitored by an independent regulator, there is increased consumer willingness to pay approved tariffs."

Various blog posts available at www.globalwaters.org  recap the highlights from the conference.
We Want Your Stories
We are always looking for Rotary projects to highlight.

Send an email to info@wasrag.org and tell us briefly about your project, indicating what Rotary clubs were involved, how many people are impacted and what you learned that can help other Rotary projects.

We are also interested in Best Practices for projects. We would love to know how you determined the needs, measured the success and if you have any tips for similar projects.

In all cases, send two or three pictures that represent the project. We will work with you to highlight the project in the newsletter and/or the WASRAG Stories Blog.

The Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (WASRAG) is pleased to consider partnerships with any corporate supporter. Due to the unique attributes of water sources and water provision, acceptance of corporate support does not imply an endorsement of any particular water technology. Rotarians, Rotary clubs, and Rotary partners must evaluate any technology to determine if it is the best solution for the conditions where the program will be implemented. WASRAG can provide guidance about where different technologies work best, but Rotarians and Rotary clubs must make the final decision about how to implement their programs.
