Memory Cafés
Memory Cafés welcome those experiencing early stage dementia, mild memory loss or cognitive impairment, as well as family and friends of those affected.  They are a great opportunity for lively discussions, information gathering, refreshments, camaraderie and creative fun! We have a gerontology professional available to answer questions and an enormous wealth of experience among participants to be shared. Making Music at Atlas Waterfront Café
Join us as we " Make Music with the Fox Valley Symphony" on Thursday, June 21 at 2 pm at the Atlas Waterfront Café, 425 W Water St.  We are excited to welcome special guest facilitator, Oliver Zornow from the Fox Valley Symphony and the Spark! Program of The Building for Kids.   Listen to music from a string quartet and explore fun ways to engage in the musical experience.

Try Out Your Green Thumb in Kimberly
" Gardening is cheaper than therapy and you get tomatoes!" (Unknown Author).  Join us at the Village of Kimberly Municipal Complex, 515 W Kimberly Ave, on Wednesday, June 27 at 1 pm as we welcome summer and talk about gardening with our special guest facilitator Heather Flick, Caregiver Coach from the REACH Program. Test out your green thumb and inner artist as we plant in a container of your design.  Join us in the library today. Come on time to get a good parking spot as there is a popular children's program beginning at 1:30.   We request everyone attend with a partner!
Memory Loss Resource Center
The Memory Loss Resource Center  welcomes those experiencing dementia, their care partners, family and friends. Get information and support in a warm and caring environment. We look forward to meeting you.

   Memory Assessment Center
Assessments are offered at Mosaic Family Health in downtown Appleton by Dr. Lee Vogel and resident physicians. Initial assessments screen for memory impairment, assess overall health and, if warranted, proceed to a more comprehensive evaluation to diagnose the cause/type of dementia. REACH  In-Home Caregiver Support
REACH (Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer's Caregiver Health) is a 6 month evidence-based in-home caregiver intervention program.  REACH supports the caregiver by addressing issues such as emotional well being, stress management, troubling behaviors, problem solving and self-care.   You may contact the Caregiver Coach, Heather Flick, directly at 920-997-8407 to find out more about this program. Join Us For a Special Performance of " Disney's Aladdin, Jr."
 Presented by Xavier Theatre Academy
Mark your calendar for the evening of  Tuesday, June 19 at 7 pm to attend the preview night of "Disney's Aladdin Jr." with your fellow Memory Project friends.  This play is based on the 1992 Academy Award winning film about Aladdin who discovers that his true worth lies deep within himself.  This exciting stage production is appropriate for all ages and will be held at the Xavier Fine Arts Theater, 1600 W Prospect Ave in Appleton.  For more information about " Disney's Aladdin Jr." click here.

The Fox Valley Memory Project Participants are
Ready to Cruise on the Chain O'Lakes
Please join us on Thursday, June 28 as we travel on our next coach bus outing.  Our destination is Clear Water Harbor in Waupaca where we will board the Chief Waupaca, a double decker authentic sternwheeler. Our 90 minute narrated tour through Waupaca's crystal clear Chain O'Lakes is sure to be a unique experience filled with breathtaking scenery and fascinating history. 

The drive to our luncheon site will take us through the grounds of the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.     Lunch will be served at The Woods in Waupaca.

Join Us to Dine and Socialize
One of the goals of the Fox Valley Memory Project is to reduce social isolation in a stigma-free environment for care partners and their loved ones with memory loss. 
 
Participants have expressed an interest in having more opportunities to socialize. The next social meetup has been set for Wednesday, June 20 at 4:30 pm in the private meeting room at Pizza Ranch,  N139 Eisenhower Dr. in Appleton.  Come with your loved one or come by yourself to meet up with your Memory Project friends for some tasty food and a great social opportunity.   
A Community Education Opportunity with Attic Chamber Theatre's Presentation of "Painting Churches"
The Fox Valley Memory Project is partnering with Attic Chamber Theatre to support their presentation of "Painting Churches."  A goal of Attic Chamber Theatre is to present entertaining and thought-provoking plays focusing on important social issues. In 2018, Attic has selected dementia as their featured important health and social concern.   The staff and volunteers from the Fox Valley Memory Project will be available before each performance and during intermission to share information and. resources with the audience.

Opening night is Thursday, June 21 at 7 pm and the play runs through Friday, June 29. Performances are held at the Lucia Baehman Theatre in the Communication Arts Center of UW-Fox Valley in Menasha.  A Talk-Back will be held after the  June 24 matinee performance where the actors and Lynn Ann Clausing Rusch of Fox Valley Memory Project  will interact with the audience and answer questions.

"Tune Into Summer" with the KImberly Community Band 
Join us for an evening of music with the Kimberly Community Band at their concert on Wednesday, July 25 at 7 pm.  This free concert will be held at the Sunset Park Amphitheater, 800 W Kimberly Ave.  An ice cream social will follow the concert.  For more information about the Kimberly Community Band and their summer programs  click here.

Celebrate Summer at the Hill with a Special Drumming Cafe
Come one, come all for an afternoon of fun at Mosquito Hill Nature Center, N3880 Rogers Rd. on Wednesday, July 11, at 1:30 pm.  The Oshkosh Rhythm Institute will be here with all their percussion instruments to help us move to the beat of our own drum! We would like to make this an extra special day and encourage you to invite your children and grandchildren to join us for this special time together.

"Understanding the Dementia Journey"
Free Educational Workshops Across the Fox Valley
The Fox Valley Memory Project and the Alzheimer's Association are partnering to present a year-long educational series about dementia.  The June workshop is entitled "The Basics:  Memory Loss, Dementia & Alzheimer's" with a special presentation entitled "Assessments, Support and REACH Services- Mosaic Family Health" by Beth Belmore, Community Care Coordinator from Mosaic Family Health.   This workshop will be presented at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, June 12  at the Prince of Peace Church, 2330 E Calumet St. in Appleton.  

The next topic in the series is entitled Effective Communication Strategies with a special presentation topic about Sensory Theme kits.  This program will be presented at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, July 24 at the Neenah Public Library 240 E Wisconsin Ave.

Join the "On a Positive Note" Chorus
 and Put a Little Music in Your Life
Frank Rippl will once again lead the "On a Positive Note" chorus in favorite and familiar songs.  This chorus is especially designed for those experiencing memory loss and their loved ones.  No special musical skills are required. 

Rehearsals will be on  Tuesday afternoons, August 28 and September 4, 11 & 18 from 3 - 4 pm at the  Thompson Center on Lourdes,   2331 E Lourdes Dr. in Appleton. Take the Elevator to Room 203.  The  performance event will be on  Thursday, September 20 at 12 pm  at the Building for Kids, 100 W College Ave. in Appleton.  Our performance will be part of the  5th Annual SPARK! conference

Memory Camp: A Time for Relaxation & Inspiration for 
People Living with Dementia & their Families 
The first residential Memory Camp in the U.S. will take place this summer at Moon Beach Camp in St. Germain, WI, on August 20 - 23 .   This special camp is designed for people living with mild to moderate dementia, their care partners and family members.  Click here  for more details.

Our Purple Angel Heroes!

The District Managers for Walgreens in the Fox City area received a Purple Angel refresher training and learned more about the resources that the Fox Valley Memory Project provides in our community.  We are happy to revisit your business and offer refresher training to your staff.  

The Fox Valley Memory Project Purple Angel program continues to spread dementia awareness throughout the Fox Valley and beyond. The Purple Angel Community Team is made up of a small group of dedicated community members who offer dementia awareness training to area businesses.

SPARK!
SPARK! is a program for caregivers and loved ones living with memory loss.  The Trout Museum of Art (with a second program at St Paul Elder Service) and The Building for Kids Children's Museum are pleased to be among the Wisconsin museums awarded funding by Bader Philanthropies and the Community Foundation to create programming where participants engage in lively discussions, art making, and multi-sensory activities.

Each one-hour program is led by a specially trained museum educator who will engage participants in interactive exhibit experiences.  After each program, coffee and conversation is led by volunteers who give participants and caregivers the opportunity to support and socialize.

Memory Care Respite Partners
A monthly respite program is held on the first Monday of each month at St Paul Lutheran Church in Neenah. The next program w ill be held on Monday, June 4 from 1:30 - 3:30 pm.   Offering care partners 2 hours of personal time, this free program is staffed by professional caregivers and trained volunteers. "Time Out Cafe"  In Seymour
