The Wild Side:
National Pollinator Week

National Pollinator Week was initiated and is run by the Pollinator Partnership. It's a week devoted to raising awareness about the crucial importance of pollinators and their role in our world.

What's a pollinator? A pollinator is anything that carries pollen from one flower to another. This includes the wind, but is usually used to refer to animals like bees, bats, hummingbirds, butterflies and many other species that feed from flowers.

Why are they so important? Without pollinators, there would be no plants. Without plants, we would be without fruit, vegetables, root beer, chocolate, lumber, and many medicines. Pollination is essential to producing not just fruit, but seeds. And without seeds there would be no more plants. Aren't pollinators amazing?

Stop by our Pollinator Festival on Saturday, June 16, from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. to learn more about pollinators and how you can help them.
