WORLD'S FIRST DOMESTIC SATELLITE

#1) HUGHES AIRCRAFT COMPANY. [circa 1972-75]. Barrel shaped model in metal 2-3/4 inches high x 3 inches diameter, shiny blue and black colours , mounted on a polished wood base,  6 inches long x 3-1/2 inches wide. There was probably an antenna on the top of this satellite but it is lacking on this model.
#2) [HUGHES AIRCRAFT COMPANY?]. [circa 1972-75].  [Model of Anik 1]. Model of Anik 1 in metal 3-1/2 inches long, 2-1/2 inches wide across the top, and 1-1/4 inches with a wing on each side each extending 10-1/2 inches and 2 inches wide.
The satellite model is attached to an angled plexiglass construction which is then mounted on an oval wooden base 3/4 inch thick, 3-13/16 inches at its widest point  and 4-7/16 inches at its longest point.

Susan Cheever (b1943)

Susan Cheever is a novelist,  nonfiction author, journalist, literary historian, teacher, and biographer. Cheever was a Guggenheim Fellow in 1983. She graduated from Pembroke College in Brown University. Her father was a celebrated American novelist and short story writer.

This collection contains approximately 43 pieces with about 150 pages dating from the 1950's to 1977.

FERBER, Edna [1885-1968]
 
Edna Ferber was a very popular American Pulitzer prize winner, novelist, short story writer and playwright. A number of her books and plays became movies like 'Show Boat,' 'Giant' and 'Stage Door.' She one of the most influential women writers of the era. In 2002 the United States Postal Service issued a Distinguished Americans postage stamp of Ferber to honor her achievements.

This collection contains 42 items, specifically 1 pocket diary, 27 ALS & TLS letters and 3 ephemera covering a time period from 1931 to 1967.

Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins, known as Anthony Hope, was an English novelist and playwright. He was a prolific writer, especially of adventure novels such as The Prisoner of Zenda and The Chronicles of Count Antonio.

Robert Hichens was an English journalist, novelist, playwright, short story writer, autobiographer, music critic and lyricist. The Garden of Allah (1904) a romance set in Northern Africa that sold nearly a million copies and was adapted for both stage and was made into a film three times.

Handwritten legal document, 6pp, 8 x 10 inches, tied with red ribbon upper left, Tryon County, New York, filed 21 May 1775 (March term in the fifteenth year of the Reign of King George the Third). Legal document relating to a debt, signed W. Butler - one of the lawyers. Toning as expected. Very good condition otherwise.

Walter Butler (1752-81) Loyalist who became a captain in Butler's Rangers, formed by his father, John Butler.
