President's Message
|
|
"Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire." This quote came up most recently in a high school graduation speech. It made me think: am I being fearless? What am I pursuing? Am I doing what excites me?
Aren't these the questions of life?! There is an amazing fearlessness, fervor, and selflessness witnessed through Impact 100 and the women in this organization. Here's how I see it:
We are in the final stages of our grant review process. It is not easy; there are many ways to make an IMPACT in our tri-state region, but where do we begin? I continue to witness a
fearlessness within our women-led committees; a commitment to choosing the strongest one or two Grant Finalists to put forth to Impact 100 membership-at-large. This "whittling-down" process is challenging.
Thank you to the fearless women who have invested countless hours in this pursuit!
The
pursuit
of these five Focus Area Committees and Community Investment Review Committee (CIRC) includes financial reviews, in-depth program analysis, and site visits to net in the strongest initiatives in which Impact 100 member contributions can be invested.
Which brings me to what sets my soul on fire: sharing how those Grant Finalist initiatives will impact our region! On June 26, join fellow Impact 100 members at our
Meet the Finalists event at Carnegie Hall in Newport. Four of these Grant Finalists will be awarded $104,000 each at the September 13th Annual Awards Celebration at Music Hall.
What sets your soul on fire? If it's learning about nonprofit programs changing our cities and impacting our neighbors, meeting four of the brightest young philanthropists named to our 2019 class, or being a part of something bigger than yourself, please bring a friend on June 26.
Help us light the fire in others, too! We are grateful to you for sharing Impact 100 with those you know.

Cindy with CTRH wild Mustang, Rodger |
One of our Impact 100 members
and current board member, Cindy Givens, visited two of our 2016
grant recipients recently. This is what she wrote about her experiences.
"I will always treasure the experiences I've had the past two days. Visiting Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding Horsemanship yesterday (May 23rd) and seeing firsthand the work they are doing with our veterans and hearing from those veterans how much it has changed them brought tears to my eyes. And today, May 25th, participating in the groundbreaking ceremony for the house for "Constructing a Pathway to Careers" with ACI and the Woodward HS students was so very inspiring. The community of Bond Hill came out to celebrate this project. The students were standing tall and were so proud to speak about what this means to them. I was asked to say a few words on behalf of Impact 100 and I hope I represented all 479 members well. The last 2 days are what Impact 100 is all about. I was very proud to represent all of you." -- Cindy Givens
Photos from Bond Hill groundbreaking event on May 25th in Bond Hill. Woodward Career Technical High School students from the Building Industries program will work along side their facility members and construction industry professionals this summer to build a new residence as part of the initiative, "Constructing a Pathway to Careers", a 2016 Impact 100 grant-funded project.
"Our students would like the community of Bond Hill to know who excited they are to carry out this project," said Woodward principal, Shauna Murphy. "They live in this neighborhood and want a chance to be stewards of their community."
The site was purchased by the Greater Cincinnati Construction Foundation. The previously vacant lot will be the site of a ADA compliant single family home as students hope to serve a veteran with disabilities or senior member of the community.

STARFIRE TO HOST ANNUAL CELEBRATION
June 22nd, 7:30am - 9:00am
20th Century Theater 3021 Madison Rd
Review The Starfire Year Through Film And Speakers!
On June 22nd, Starfire will host their
Annual Celebration at 20th Century Theater in Oakley from 7:30-9:00am. The Annual Celebration will show highlights of the innovative work people with developmental disabilities and their families are bringing to Cincinnati through Starfire's support. This event is open to all and tickets are free but need to be claimed through
Eventbrite or Starfire's Facebook page.
"As a way of saying thank you to our many generous donors, the Board of Starfire is happy to fully sponsor the cost of the Annual Celebration," says Starfire Board member Brendan Hosty. "The Annual Celebration is one of our signature events, and we are happy to show our commitment to a great organization doing groundbreaking work and changing the course of so many lives of those with developmental disabilities."
Come enjoy breakfast while Starfire presents stories of inclusion over the past year. The morning will focus around videos of people with disabilities participating in community through jobs or volunteer roles, activating projects in their neighborhood, and sustaining connections over time. Featured speakers and films will illustrate these stories along with a feature on families of children with disabilities who are leading efforts to build a community-driven life for their son or daughter. Follow along with the event through the printed release of this year's Annual Manual titled "More".
All proceeds from Annual Celebration go to Starfire. Starfire works to improve lives of people with developmental disabilities by focusing on building meaningful relationships with other people in the community with similar interests. Further information on Annual Celebration, and other events can be found on
