Education and Training Alleviate Crisis
On September 14, 2017, a Rotary WASH event will be held in Tel Aviv, Israel, in conjunction with WATEC 2017, a large, international water and sanitation fair.

The Rotary event has two parts, the first being an international symposium on the role of civil awareness and education in meeting Israel's water and sanitation challenges. To learn more contact WASRAG Ambassador Avner Fuchs at  avifuchs@netvision.net.il or read more on the WASRAG Stories page.

The second part is the Global Grant Rotary Hands Across Water Cross Culture Education program, which will host excelling students to present their innovative solutions to the global water challenges. To learn more about this program view this PDF.

International Partners Needed
District 3054 in Rajasthan, India has undertaken a significant project to provide clean water, toilet facilities and hand washing stations for 500 rural schools in India.

This project will improve the health of the school children, lengthen the years spent in school, especially among young women, but also through training, potentially change the habits of a million people.

They are looking for international partners to help make this project a reality. To learn more read this story on the WASRAG website.
B.R.E.W. Makes Commitment to Clean Water
The Rotary Fellowship Beers Rotarians Enjoy Worldwide (B.R.E.W.) at the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta made a very generous donation of $2,500 to WASRAG.

This group has big plans to raise money for WASRAG and clean water projects. They have already committed to donate 25% of their annual membership revenue to WASRAG projects. Their membership is also approaching major brewers to encourage them to provide finanical support for water projects.

Launch of Globalwaters.org
The USAID's Water Team has created a new website Globalwaters.org which is a knowledge-sharing hub for those working on water issues.

The aim of this website is the fostering of global knowledge and collaboration for sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene. It plans to provide the latest news, learnings, and resources to water practitioners.

Making Safe Water a Priority
"Water is one of the 21st century's most pressing - and solvable - challenges," is the first sentience on the About Water 2017 webpage at www.water2017.org

This small group of individuals took on the mission over the past year to lobby the U.S. government to partner with other countries and agencies to seriously tackle the global water issues. They advocate that with a safe clean water supply stable economic development and human security are possible, which benefits the international economy.

Every two weeks, they provide a summary of the water issues from around the world.
Our Members Asked?
WASRAG is extremely fortunate to count many dedicated and knowledgeable Rotarians on its team. Which is good - as our membership have lots of questions about the best technology to use on projects, how best to assess local needs, and best practices for sustainable projects.

We would like to start a new feature in the newsletter, where you ask the questions and we get answers from our experts and the readers. We will provide the input in a future newsletter.

Send your email to info@wasrag.org and indicate QUESTION in the title.
New Twist on Solar Stills
Solar still water purification technology has been used for ages. A team from China's Fudan University, University of Buffalo and the University of Wisconsin-Madison have developed an economical and efficient still that uses uses carbon-coated paper.

The device, which is the size of a small refrigerator, floats on the water and heats only the water that soaks through the paper, versus trying to heat a large body of water like other stills.

To learn more read the "solar vapor generator" article that appeared in the New Atlas e-newsletter.

The Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (WASRAG) is pleased to consider partnerships with any corporate supporter. Due to the unique attributes of water sources and water provision, acceptance of corporate support does not imply an endorsement of any particular water technology. Rotarians, Rotary clubs, and Rotary partners must evaluate any technology to determine if it is the best solution for the conditions where the program will be implemented. WASRAG can provide guidance about where different technologies work best, but Rotarians and Rotary clubs must make the final decision about how to implement their programs.
