What are the "Real Costs" of WASH projects?
The International Water and Sanitation Centre (IRC), located in the Netherlands is taking registrations for its free on-line course "Costing Sustainable Services" on the life-cycle cost approach.
The lack of accurate information makes it impossible to estimate the true cost of sustainable and good quality water and sanitation projects. This hands-on course that you complete at your own pace over a three month period will familiarize you with the life-cycle cost approach and show you how to integrate it into your projects.

How Long Can Rainwater be Stored?
Last month, we introduced a new segment to the Newsletter, encouraging our readers to submit questions for the
WASRAG experts.
The first question submitted was "How long can rainwater be stored? What can be done to preserve it in a 40,000 gallon concrete reservoir?"
Professional Services Team leader Ron Denham's response highlights how you often need a lot more information before a question can be answered. For example:
- Is the water collected from a roof?
- Do you divert the water from the first rainfall away from the tank, so that only clean water goes into the tank?
- Are you using chlorine or other purification?
- Is the reservoir open or enclosed?
- What is the rainfall pattern - frequent small showers or irregular heavy downpours
- What is the temperature inside the reservoir - or - what are the ambient conditions in the location of the reservoir?
Do you have a question for the WASRAG experts? I so s

The Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (WASRAG) is pleased to consider partnerships with any corporate supporter. Due to the unique attributes of water sources and water provision, acceptance of corporate support does not imply an endorsement of any particular water technology. Rotarians, Rotary clubs, and Rotary partners must evaluate any technology to determine if it is the best solution for the conditions where the program will be implemented. WASRAG can provide guidance about where different technologies work best, but Rotarians and Rotary clubs must make the final decision about how to implement their programs.
