Jake joined the staff of Bon Air in 2011. After two years as the Young Adult Minister, Jake was selected to begin a third campus of Bon Air, which he has grown into a thriving congregation. Jake regularly engages his community over coffee as he builds authentic relationships while living a Christ-centered life. He enjoys soccer, running, dry humor, and basic carpentry. His favorite authors include Richard Rohr, and he likes Ryan Adams music.
Allison Maxwell also is a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University and has a portrait and wedding photography business. Her work has appeared in national publications and she enjoys cooking, traveling, yoga, and being “mom” to Eva. She has a warm and engaging personality, and both Allison and Jake are very generous with their time and resources. Read more about the Maxwells

Technology Update:
We are upgrading our church computer system and so you will be seeing some changes in our communications, publications, and information systems in the coming weeks. Our Second Page newsletter, church website, and mass communication programs will have a new look. One way you can help make this a seamless transition is to check to make sure any emails, voicemails, or texts you should be receiving from the church are not caught in your spam filter; if you find them there, release them and add the sender to you contact list. Please call the church office to let us know if you think you are missing any communications.
Thank you!

Church Takes Historic Action
The Vision and Leadership Team took an unusual and historic step during worship last Sunday. In recognition of the indispensable role she has played over the past months since Ryon Price resigned and will continue to fill until our new Senior Pastor is chosen, the VLT made the following recommendation:
“That Second Baptist Church name Stephanie Nash as Senior Pastor of Second Baptist Church, retroactive to the date she was named Interim Senior Pastor.”
This recommendation is intended to officially recognize Stephanie Nash as having served as the first female Senior Pastor in the history of Second Baptist and to honor her invaluable service to this congregation.
The congregation voted on the recommendation during the service, and consistent with the notice requirements of our Covenant of Community, members who have not voted will be able to do so on a ballot available in the Church office up through June 3
rd
.
This recommendation does not affect the vote to be taken during the worship service on June 3
rd
on the recommendation of the VLT that Jake Maxwell be named our new Senior Pastor. Stephanie Nash will continue to serve as Senior Pastor until the date on which our new Senior Pastor arrives, and she will continue in her role as an assistant Pastor as long as needed to make a smooth transition.
Stephanie expressed that she was greatly surprised and honored by the action. The VLT encourages everyone to take this opportunity to express their gratitude to Stephanie for her tireless devotion and work on behalf of Second B.

We Love You, Sofie!
Sofia Roa has played a major role in our ministry to children for the past 27 years, but she will be retiring at the end of this month. She first served as a teacher in our Child Development Center and then joined our nursery staff in 2001. Many of our children and grandchildren were nurtured and cared for by our dear Sofie!
We are establishing a
LOVE OFFERING for SOFIE
and you may contribute to it anytime before June 15.
Thank you, Sofie, for loving our kids!

Let Your Light SHINE!
Our Mission Implementation Team has challenged us to
“BE the LIGHT”
by sharing all the
places
we serve others in our community throughout the year. We want to shine the Light of Christ into all of Lubbock in 2018!
In order to discover and share where Second B’ers are serving others in our community, we have developed a
map of Lubbock
to be placed near our south entrance on which we will mark all the locations that our members are serving to shine Christ’s light. If you want to learn more about potential places to serve, both inside and outside our church walls, please drop by this information station. The
touch screen
located there will provide you with information from our growing bank of data about ways you can become the Body of Christ in our community.
Let us know where you are serving or placing your commitment, no matter if it is once a week or once a year, at church or elsewhere, by filling out the
card
you will receive in the mail or find near the information station. Simply place your cards in the
box
located nearby.
We are called to shine our light "like stars in the universe" (Philippians 2:15). Let your light shine in 2018. Help us to “Be the Light” of Christ in Lubbock this year!
