Dear Parents,

We are quickly approaching the end of spring break and the start of our new distance-learning format.  Our faculty and staff are committed to providing the best teaching and learning platform they can achieve.  They have given up large portions of their spring break to master this new format. The technology team (Eric and Todd) and the administrative staff have been putting in countless hours to ensure our students have an optimal learning environment given the state’s restrictions on in-person learning.  I really couldn’t be more proud of everyone – parents, students, faculty, staff, and administrators who are adjusting to these new circumstances, whether if it is for the next few weeks or months, to ensure that growth and learning continue for the remainder of the year. Our mission is to cultivate a learning environment in which students discover their potential to excel as individuals, contribute to their communities, and participate thoughtfully in the world we share.  I can’t think of a better time for us to be fully committed to living this mission. We have learned over the past few weeks that we have a tremendous opportunity and responsibility to take care of ourselves and others.

Nancy, Jen, and Diane sent a letter yesterday giving you a detailed overview of how we will create a sense of community and connection to start this fourth quarter.

What you can expect:
  • Today at 11 a.m. (Mountain Daylight Time), Nancy, Eric, Jen, and Diane are making themselves available via Zoom to answer any questions you might have.

  • We will be sending both students and parents short surveys to give you an opportunity to provide feedback.

  • I will share with you as early as possible any decisions that are made at the state, local, or school level and communicate the path we will take based on those decisions.  As of right now, we are either going to be starting school on April 20th or shortly after, or in-person learning will be suspended for the remainder of the school year.  We have no plans to extend our school year beyond June 6th.

  • We will ask that all students begin to self-isolate for 14 days before returning to CRMS, and will remind families of this expectation as we get closer to an opening date.  As of right now, Colorado has a “shelter in place” order through April 11th.

International families:
  • We are advising all international students who wish to return home - and have an opportunity to do so - to make reservations which get them home as soon as possible.  We will work with these students and their families to complete the school year remotely.

Communication:
  • Please look on our website and read our weekly newsletter for updates and information.

As of this writing, I am still waiting to receive an update from The Association of Boarding Schools on the current status of other boarding schools in the U.S. and Canada, and will share any significant trends I am seeing when they arrive.  I remain so moved by all the support, kindness, and words of encouragement that have been shared over the past few weeks. I was clearly moved during the last zoom meeting by all the work the faculty have been doing in preparation for the weeks ahead.  If there is anything that you feel needs my attention, do not hesitate to reach out.

My best,
