If you'd like to learn more about how the pieces of God's Story in the Old and New Testaments are connected, join us this spring for a study of the book of Hebrews. As we study we will be learning and practicing the Bible study principles of observation, interpretation and application.

WOMEN OF VALLEY BLOG - Prayer: There is Nothing Trite About It!
Thank you for joining with us in this prayer journey we have been on for the past few months!  Spring seems a bit delayed this year, and Easter is over.  If you are like me, you may be feeling a bit weary in many areas, including your prayer life.  Hopefully the next couple of blog posts will provide some encouragement!

When we look around at culture, it is easy to get discouraged.  Recent events and the following protests sometimes make me want to keep myself unaware of what is going on in the world.  But that is not what God would have us do!  One of the comments that greatly troubled me was all over Facebook and always said something like, "Keep your thoughts and prayers and do        somethi ng."  As if prayer is doing nothing.  If you have been discouraged by what has been going o
n around us, or maybe feel like your prayers never make it to God, check out this post from Tim Challies.

Many years ago, long before blogs and social media and YouTube, Neil Postman asked this question: "How often does it occur that information provided you on morning radio or television, or in the morning newspaper, causes you to alter your plans for the day, or to take some action you would not otherwise have taken, or provides insight into some problem you are required to solve?" The weather report may compel you to grab your umbrella on the way out the door, or news of a local crime spree may remind you to double-check you've locked the windows before you turn in for the night. But generally, the news you hear provokes no response, it motivates no change to your life, it has no impact on your routines. It elicits emotion and opinion, but rarely sparks action.  READ MORE...
COMING UP AT VALLEY U
SUNDAY, APRIL 15 AT 6:30 PM - CASE FOR A CREATOR
Has modern science made the idea of a Creator irrelevant? Or do new advances in understanding reveal intelligent design?
Join us as we carefully examine the scientific, philosophical, and theological evidence for a Creator.

SUNDAY, APRIL 22 AT 6:30 PM - CATHOLICS AND EVANGELICALS: COMMON GROUND AND CLEAR DIFFERENCE
Are Christians saved by their denominational labels? Can there be "saved" Catholics and "lost" Evangelicals?
Join us as we study the history of our faith and look with fresh eyes on how God loves a diverse, yet unifed flock.

SUNDAY, APRIL 29 AT 6:30 PM - CASE FOR CHRIST

LOVE YOU DES MOINES DAYS - JUNE 16-24!
Mark your calendar now for the week of June 16-24 for Love You DMS Days! This nine-day event is packed with opportunities to love our community.  100+ Valley Church adults, youth, and children will discover what's possible when we're mobilized in fun, easy, meaningful service and connection with our neighbors and community.  Countless lives will be impacted as each of us choose to serve for 2-4 hours during this week.

ThisCoffee, Chocolate, Chat no date week will conclude with a special COFFEE, CHOCOLATE & CHAT  for women on Sunday, June 24.  This inspiring and fun event will give women an opportunity to participate in a service project  during the evening right here at Valley Church and also receive more information about loving and serving our city and our neighbors!  And...of course we will top off our time together with Coffee, Chocolate and lots of Chat!
ROOM FOR DOUBT - MESSAGE SERIES
How can a loving God allow so much suffering and tragedy in the world? Could Jesus really be the only way to God?
What evidence is there that God even exists? For these and other questions, join us for our new series Room for Doubt.
Skeptics welcome! Join us as we explore the evidence for the Christian faith.
WEEK 1 - APRIL 7 & 8
Does God Really Exist?
We'll consider evidence from science, history, Scripture, and experience that points to God's existence.
WEEK 2 - APRIL 14 & 15
Isn't the Bible Full of Myths and Mistakes?
Can you really trust the Bible?  We'll consider the main objections to the reliability of the Bible, and look to reasons for taking it seriously.
WEEK 3 - APRIL 22/23
Why Would God Allow Tragedy & Suffering?
Perhaps the most challenging of all objections, we'll consider several biblical "points of light" for why Jesus is the best solution to this thorny problem.
WEEK 4 - APRIL 28 & 29
Isn't it intolerant to say that Jesus is the only way?
With so many other sincere religious viewpoints, isn't it bigoted and intolerant to claim that Jesus is the only way to God?

VALLEY QUILTERS

Valley Quilters make "Compassion Quilts" for women who are going through a difficult season in life.   The Quilters are in need of willing hands to help with this amazing ministry. Even if you do not sew, they could use your assistance in setting up on Fridays (day before meeting), and on Saturdays, cutting  fabric, layout, pinning, ironing, praying over each quilt and clean up after meeting. If you desire to serve women in our Valley community in this way, the Valley Quilters invite you to join them!

The Quilters meet on Saturdays  once a month, 9am-3pm at Valley Church in East Central Station.  Their next monthly Quilting Time is Saturday, March April 21.  If you are interested in finding out more and to RSVP that you are attending, contact Laurie Hews at:lahews@gmail.com
