Event Update
Year 8, Issue 1
Get Kids Excited about STEM Education and Careers!
Saturday, October 27, 2018, is the date this year!
As we prepare for our eighth year, we are excited about new directions:  new outreach, new partner, and expanded event.

Are there any kids out there who have attended every single one of our Discovery Days?   Let us know!
8th Year!
OUTREACH Petaluma’s SONOMA-MARIN FAIR invited us to have a special section at their upcoming fair June 20 on Kids’ Day. There will be nine of our usual exhibitors having fun with hands-on activities for kids. Come see robots, instant ice cream, native plants, and more. This is just one way that we reach out to help spread the word of our upcoming Discovery Day on Saturday, October 27, 2018.  Think about visiting the Sonoma-Marin Fair for a fun day and a little taste of Discovery Day!
NEW PARTNER We welcome our new partner Career Technical Education Foundation Sonoma County whose mission is to align education and industry to strengthen economic development and student achievement. Along with providing the contractual relationship with the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, CTEF will help expand the learning opportunities to high school students by facilitating internships with exhibiting organizations.
EXHIBITORS There's always something new and exciting at the Discovery Day! First time, as well as returning exhibitors, are tuning up their activities for the thousands of young students and families who attend every year. We expect more exhibitors than ever before!  Ready to go?  Let us know  and you will be contacted as soon as the online registration portal opens. Not sure about an activity or what it takes to exhibit?  Drop us a line  and we'll find some answers for you. 2018 is looking to be a great event, and we hope you'll be part of it!
SPONSORS We have only been able to continue our Discovery Days because of our strong support from businesses, foundations, educational institutions and involved individuals. If you would like to contribute, then visit our sponsorship page and add your name to the list of those who are concerned with STEM education of our youth for the future of our community. Contact Don Pierce  who coordinates our sponsor effort.
EDUCATORS A new special newsletter is being sent just to educators in the five north Bay counties: Marin, Mendocino, Napa, Solano, and Sonoma.  In this way, we can provide school-specific news and also obtain a better means of distributing our student flyer for the Friday packs or school online services. Anyone wanting to receive the special educators newsletter, please sign up here.  Just click the flyer at the left for your own PDF of the flyer in both English and Spanish.
FOUNDING FATHER The Buck Institute for Research on Aging  was our “founding father” and continues to support us in many ways.  The use of the beautiful facility high in the Novato hills for our meetings is a continuous show of support.  Their educational scientist Claire Spafford is always at our meetings and offers continuous support.
The Buck Institute for Research on Aging aims to end the threat of age-related diseases for this and future generations by bringing together the most capable and passionate scientists from a broad range of disciplines to identify and impede the ways in which we age. An independent, nonprofit institution, our goal is to increase human health span, or the healthy years of life. Globally recognized as the pioneer and leader in efforts to target aging, the number one risk factor serious diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, cancer, macular degeneration, heart disease, and diabetes, the Buck wants to help people live better longer.
