Item Donation Policies & Procedures
We have created some wonderful partnerships recently and I want to share them with you because some things will be changing with how we do things as far as item donations go.
Furniture Donations
We are now partnered with Compass, www.CompassExperience.com, here in Venice to provide furniture to our families free of charge. We will no longer be taking furniture donations at Family Promise. Anyone who calls wishing to donate furniture will be asked to call Compass.
They will ask you to send them a picture and then they will be back in touch. If they accept the items, t
hey will either take the furniture for resale and we will get a check from them or they will store the furniture in their warehouse for our families. When we have a family ready to move in to their new home, Compass will allow the family to come in and pick the furniture they want which Compass will then deliver to the new home, all free of charge to our families. This will save us on the cost of storing the furniture and renting the moving trucks, not to mention saving us the multitude of hours spent managing all of it.
Small Kitchen Items, etc.
We will still take small kitchen items: pots, pans, dishes, etc. but they will need to be brought to our Day Center after calling to make sure that we are in need of them. After getting rid of the storage space we are paying for, we will only have the small storage that is donated so we will need to limit the type and amount of items we take.
Clothing Donations
General donations of clothing can be taken to Project Give Thrift Shop at 478 US Highway 41 Bypass. The only clothing we will take at our Day Center are items that we have specifically asked for in our newsletter or in emails to our Coordinators. This way we are getting the specific size and type of clothing needed and do not need to store anything.
Donations for the Day Center
We are always in need of some types of items at our Day Center to help support our families in our shelter program and will continue to take those donation at the Day Center. Some examples are: laundry soap and fabric softener, 8 oz. bottled water, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hair brushes and combs, feminine hygiene products, baby wipes, cleaning supplies, toilet paper and paper towel, etc.
