Arkansas has had its first deaths from the coronavirus outbreak. Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Tuesday announced two people have died from COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.
Faulkner County's deputy coroner said the deaths include a 91-year-old man who died at a Conway hospital. Another Arkansas man in his 50s died as well.
According to the Arkansas Department of Health website dedicated to tracking COVID-19 (
link), 280 Arkansans have test positive for the virus as of 4:20 p.m., Wednesday, March 25. So far there have been 16 positive tests in Garland County and one in Saline.
You can watch Hutchinson's COVID-19 press conference for March 25
here. He focused
on veterans and the state moving from recommendations of the 10 or more rule to a directive. Those directives are expected to be on the Arkansas Department of Health website shortly.
While the CDC public health emergency recommendations do not apply to the day-to-day operation of certain business operations at this time, there are no reasonable assurances of recommended social distancing and safety in Barber Shops, Body Art Establishments, Body Art Schools, Cosmetology Establishments, Massage Therapy Clinics/Spas, and Medical Spas. In order to slow the spread of COVID-19, all Barbers, Body Art establishments, Body Art schools, Cosmetology establishments, Massage Therapy Clinics/Spas, and Medical Spas should close for in-person operations. Maintaining any related schools' distance education/learning is acceptable.
This directive to Barbers, Body Art Establishments, Body Art Schools, Cosmetology Establishments and Massage Therapy Clinics/Spas, and Medical Spas is made in an attempt to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by the virus. This directive and mandate is subject to change as the COVID-19 pandemic progresses.
This directive will be in effect as of March 25 at noon.

Outdoor Facility Closures
After monitoring activity on the basketball and pickleball courts for the past two days and receiving numerous calls from concerned members about continued close contact and groups of people congregating at distances closer than 6 foot, we must make the tough decision to close these operations effective tomorrow, March 26.
We are seeing significant improvements in golf facilities and have not yet found reasons for concern in the tennis complex, lawn bowling, trails or bocce at this time. However, we are continuing to closely monitor each of these areas and ask everyone to avoid gatherings of 10 or more or distancing within 6 foot of others, whether indoors or outdoors in order to avoid further closures.
Golf
Use of POA carts has risen significantly because of our single-rider policy and nicer weather. We are adjusting our tee sheets to accommodate as many golfers as possible. Please be patient with us during this time.
We need golfers to return their golf carts to the cart area and empty their trash as soon as they finish with their rounds. Our golf staff will clean and disinfect the carts and make them available for the next golfers as soon as possible.
For your safety, please be patient and don't take dirty golf carts that have not been disinfected and cleaned.
