news from the blue
a message from jill....
Namaste!

I've spent the past couple of months navigating a veritable host of minor maladies and tribulations with my personal spaceship, this human body. I'm trying to hold an even perspective on the matter as I have a couple of friends who are living with major diagnoses carrying unknown trajectories into the future. In comparison, I've got the sniffles. At the same time, this is my reality, my story and I'm working on acknowledging that it's valid without making a compare/contrast study if I am or am not worthy to have the struggle I'm having. My friend Mimi's grandfather once said that if everyone you know got together and put their problems in a bag in the center of the room and you could choose to leave with any bag you wanted, you'd walk out with your own. Amen to that. You still have a bag of woes, it's just your bag. So you may as well dig in.

What inspires you?
Creative, passionate entrepreneurs that take a chance on an idea they believe in and stop at nothing until they see it through. Whether or not it brings them financial success is irrelevant - I'm inspired by their bravery, their commitm e nt to take a risk and embark on the road less traveled, despite naysayers and obstacles and doubt. The fear of failure is a real thing... and it is some thing that I am still working on absolving myself of to this very day.

What do you love about the blue?
From the moment I first set foot inside the blue I knew it was a magical space. The welcoming energy, the non-pretentious vibe, the community... the teachers! Since moving to Raleigh from Brooklyn earlier this spring, I've been on a crusade of sorts, frequenting every studio about town, familiarizing myself with the yoga landscape here - all in an effort to align with a studio that truly felt like home. My first visit led me straight to Jill's lunchtime flow, whose gentle, yet methodical approach transported me to that place of ease and serenity in both my mind and body that I yearn for in a public class. I was so happy afterward I asked her for a hug, and I expressed my gratitude for her offering, for upholding a certain standard and reputation for 10+ years (which is no easy feat!), for the beautiful setting in which to practice, for creating such a thoughtful, devoted community. It is all very reminiscent of my little home studio back in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.

Why do you love yoga?
I could write a book on this topic. In fact, if you put together every article or blog post I've ever written about yoga, the word count could probably rival that of an epic trilogy. So instead I'll challenge myself to answer this one in as few words as possible, and paraphrase something the great Tao Porchon-Lynch, (the world's oldest living yoga teacher at 99   and   a professional ballroom dancer) once said to me in an interview:Yoga is a dance of the soul.
The never-ending journey toward self-realization is made possible through yoga and meditation. And the more time I can spend dancin' with my Self, participating in this divine tango, the more that everything becomes illuminated - on the inside and out.
