Fun at Five Visits Altruist Brewing Company!
Have you experienced Altruist Brewing?

Altruist Brewing Company was founded as a result of the Bixby family sharing their passion for beer with a group of neighbors, all strangers who had just moved to a new town. Friendships were made, bonds were built...over a passion for beer.

Before long, Bob & Nancy teamed up with life-long friend, Chris Mancini. As demand for their beer grew, the team at Altruist realized that they wanted to make this into something bigger... something they could share with more people.

Altruist Brewing was born.

Altruist brews small hand-crafted batches, adjusting each recipe in an endless pursuit of perfection, and including a big dose of love into each batch.

Visit Altruist Brewing Company online here!

Enjoy fresh brews, tasty treats, cool drawing prizes, and the opportunity to mingle with local professionals in a fun and relaxed setting!

Solar power pioneer and motivational speaker John Boiano invites you
to join a peaceful revolution by taking the mystery out of going solar.

The solar movement is a peaceful revolution, giving us the reigns to take control of how we access our energy and the amount that we pay for it.

We live in challenging times. Mother Earth is hanging in there, waiting for our commitment to jump into action as peaceful warriors on the path of preserving a healthy and vibrant planet. And fortunately, we are at the perfect time in history to take peaceful, but powerful revolutionary action as individuals - simply by changing how we access our energy and installing solar at our homes, businesses and farms.

We the people can revolutionize the world! Bill Nye, The Science Guy, believes that with today's technology, we could be using 80% renewable energy worldwide by 2050.

Please join us for this engaging and inter-active workshop as Solar Power Pioneer and Motivational Speaker John Boiano offers insights, challenges and solutions into the 21 most asked questions about installing solar energy at your home, small business or farm.

Please bring your questions and let's have some fun talking about accessing the most powerful energy source in the universe!

Help Southbridge Bloom!
Donate to the Southbridge Planting Fund

Tree Isn't it wonderful? Spring has arrived at last, and every day we can see the landscape coming alive. And so welcome after the winter and early spring we had!

Here in Southbridge, volunteers are busily preparing to fill the urns, planters and hangers of the downtown area with flowers for the spring and summer. This natural, colorful display has become a much appreciated tradition, and as we begin our 16th year, the volunteers are more enthusiastic than ever.  The annual tradition is a source of pride to residents, and is much appreciated by those visiting or passing through the Town.

Please consider helping us to continue this tradition by contributing to this worthy effort.  In fact, we cannot keep Southbridge flowering without your help!  In addition to the cost of the flowers, we must purchase fertilizer, moisture pellets, and potting mix. Volunteers undertake the maintenance of the various planters, urns, and hangers themselves, but there are expenses associated with that as well.

We greatly appreciate the contributions of those who have supported us along the way and could not have maintained this effort without you.

If you would like more information, please contact Steve Brady, Co-Chairman of the Downtown Beautification  Subcommittee of the Southbridge Business Partnership at 508-765-9827.

Checks should be payable to the Southbridge Business Partnership with "planting fund" written in the memo portion of your check and mailed to:

North Brookfield Savings Bank Wins Top Honors at Banking Choice Awards
North Brookfield Savings Bank takes first place in all categories for Central Massachusetts.

 1st Place in Overall Quality
1st Place in Customer Service
1st Place in Technology and Tools
1st Place in Community Contribution

NBSB Earns top honors
North Brookfield Savings Bank celebrated taking 1st place in all categories of the Banking Choice Awards - Overall Quality, Customer Service, Technology and Tools, and Community Contribution - at a Celebratory Cookout held on May 23rd. Shown displaying the awards are Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Kimberly Cobb, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Jay Jil, President and
CEO Donna Boulanger and Senior Vice President and Retail Banking Manager Patty Ostrout,
with North Brookfield Savings Bank employees.

Within the Central Massachusetts region, North Brookfield Savings Bank has been chosen as the leading banking provider at the annual Banking Choice Awards, taking top honors in all categories including 1st place in Overall Quality, 1st place in Customer Service, 1st place in Technology and Tools, and 1st place in Community Contribution.

The Banking Choice Awards were developed in conjunction with The Warren Group and Customer Experience Solutions in order to recognize and celebrate financial institutions that surpass the competition in serving their customers.

Using exclusively customer feedback, they identified financial institutions that regularly go above and beyond to provide superior service and support to their customers and communities. To track and measure customer experience, over 20,000 financial institution customers were surveyed across the state of Massachusetts; receiving 10,040 responses, yielding 98,932 reviews, and a total of 1,536,000 data points. This data was used to create a quantitative report that translates customers' market research survey results into a summary showcasing how customers rate their bank, and how those ratings compare to direct competition.

"All of us at North Brookfield Savings Bank are beyond thankful to be chosen as the #1 bank in Central Massachusetts. Being a local, community bank that is committed to the well-being of our customers and communities is our first priority, so this is truly the greatest honor," said North Brookfield Savings Bank President and CEO Donna Boulanger. "Our employees work hard to ensure we provide the absolute best customer experience and they show care and devotion to the Bank's local communities through volunteerism. This top-rating at the Banking Choice Awards is because of their dedication and for that I express my appreciation and congratulate them."

To further thank employees for their dedication, North Brookfield Savings Bank invited all employees to attend an outdoor Celebratory Cookout event on May 23, 2018 at the Bank's North Brookfield Corporate Office location. The event was fully catered, featured a competitive cornhole tournament and gift items for the employees to commemorate the Bank's 1st place accomplishments.

"North Brookfield Savings Bank has set the standard very high for serving their customers," said Tim Warren, CEO of The Warren Group. "This award is a testament to their never-ending pursuit to set the bar for excellence in the Central Massachusetts banking community."

Are Habits That Don't Serve You Holding You Back?
Then it's time to Change Your Habitudes . . .
Tuesday, June 19, 2018, 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., Sturbridge, MA

Negative thinking patterns can limit the quality of life you desire.
Learn how to transcend those limitations to achieve your goals and get
to that next level in your life.

At an early age we developed emotional habits and patterns - Habitudes- that influence how we perceive and move through our lives. Some Habitudes serve us, others do not. Regardless, these Habitudes determine the outcomes in our lives.

"Rita is a gifted speaker with a heart for helping others in their growth process. Her focus on personal fulfillment as a worthwhile goal is refreshing." Laurie Nelson, Attendee, Habitudes 2.0 Workshop, April 2018

So how do we change these Habitudes that do not serve us? How do we make the shift towards positive thoughts and actions? By exploring, breaking down, and understanding the Habitude process.

Change Your Habitudes 2.0 will:
  • Examine habit formation and its effect on behavior
  • Help you uncover the Negative Habitudes holding you back
  • Examine key decisions that direct your actions
  • Explore core beliefs and the choices that may not be serving you
  • Offer strategies for releasing those negative thought patterns
"Opened my eyes for my future projects. Very interesting and informative." Joan Campanale, Attendee, Habitudes 2.0 Workshop, April 2018

You will also learn how to break the negative Habitude cycle through reframing using the process of Strategic Goal Mapping - a creative and graphic goal-mapping technique.

Strategic Goal Mapping (SGM) is a system I developed that incorporates the highly effective graphic technique of mind-mapping with a Habitude analysis action plan. By mapping out your Habitudes in a visual way, you connect thoughts, emotions and behaviors around a central goal and create an action plan that works.

"I thoroughly enjoyed this workshop and highly recommend it to anyone feeling stuck or ready to make changes in their life...
The genuineness of presentation; [Rita's] passion and energy is inspiring." Kristina LeDuc, attendee, Change Your Habitudes, Change Your Life Workshop, October 2017

This event is one of two we have planned for 2018 that include the universe.  The second event is 'Sip & Stars: Beer & Wine Tasting' during the meteor showers on August 8th with our sponsors Rapscallion Brewery and Brimfield Winery. I am looking forward to enjoying both events this year."

In our small corner of the world in Brimfield, MA you will have two hours of musical treats including Southbridge's Bells and Beaus ringing in the evening. A teen duo, Watson & Co will perform followed by Linda Day and Jodi Stevens who are both music instructors at Hitchcock.
New England Weather, with Jared Fiske, Jessica Adams and Rob Adams are a local favorites with wonderful harmonies.  Amherst singer, song writer, Luke DeRoy will be joining us as well. Tim Kane will be leading a drumming circle for all to join him and drums are provided, just bring some enthusiasm! There will be a brief commemoration and a reveal of two Sawin family portrait photos from the late 1800s donated from Alice Sawin Davis' family. Mrs. Davis left funding for Hitchcock to support musical programs for years at Hitchcock.  We will culminate the evening with a hum along on kazoos (provided) so we can all make music together!  We will be taking requests throughout the evening so come and join the fun!

Hunchback of Notre Dame
THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME
Music by Alan Menken
Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz
Book by Peter Parnell
Directed by Kevin McGerigle
Music Director Leah Marley
Choreographer Jackie McGerigle
June 8 - 24

Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film's Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Menken and Schwartz. Peter Parnell's new book features verbatim passages from Hugo's gothic novel.  The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be "Out There," observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn't the only one captivated by her free spirit, though - the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies - and it's up to Quasimodo to save them all.   A sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic.  Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical.

Transportation Festival at OSV
  June 9, 2018 at 9:30pm to June 10, 2018 at 5pm

Transportation Festival Old Sturbridge Village salutes the history of transportation in New England. Beginning with the Village's annual antique car rally, nearly 100 automobiles from 1946 and earlier will be displayed on the Village's common. There will be an assortment of pre-1946 cars representing a variety of makes and models including steam engine cars. Throughout the weekend, guests can take wagon rides or a boat ride (additional $3/person fee applies to the boat rides).

Classic Cars Evoke America's Post-World War II Drive-Through Culture
Today people are often surprised to learn that when Old Sturbridge Village first opened in 1946, it wasn't just a walking Village - it was a driving Village. Visitors could actually drive their cars into the Village and tour by auto, motoring past the Blacksmith Shop and around the Common to view its historic stores, shops, homes, and churches.

What seems odd now was perfectly normal in post-World War II America. During the war, gasoline was rationed, and automobile production ceased as factories turned out Jeeps, planes, and tanks. After these wartime deprivations, there was pent-up demand for all kinds of consumer goods - especially cars. The country embraced the drive-through culture, and Americans loved their new automobiles.

Auto-touring at Old Sturbridge Village was short-lived, however, due to rising attendance at the Village, and ceased in 1949. But OSV visitors still love antique and classic cars, and the Village salutes its early heritage by hosting its annual Antique Car Rally for autos from 1946 and earlier.

We Welcome Interesting Goodies for our Welcome Baskets!

New member Baskets

The Chamber has teamed up with the Center of Hope to create gift baskets to welcome new members to the Chamber of Central Mass South. The Chamber presents our new members with gift baskets that will not only have a monetary value but also to give the recipient an opportunity to learn more about other Chamber members and their services. These baskets make a terrific first impression and are a great way to introduce your business to new prospects. Can you help us fill these baskets with interesting goodies?

We are always seeking interesting, practical items to include in our welcome baskets. We welcome your contributions of items like modest gift certificates, discount coupons, items with your company's logo like piggy banks, thumb drives and coffee mugs, free trial items, small items your company manufactures or whatever else might promote your company and be a value to our new members.

We are looking to assemble about a dozen baskets at a time so that time sensitive material will not be out of date when received. If you would like to donate items for this program, please drop them off at the Chamber office or give us a call to arrange pick up your donated items. Contact Alix at 508-347-2761 or e-mail [email protected] if you have any questions or to arrange a pickup. Thank you for your contributions!
