Important News
Good Morning Beloved CCA Community:

Over the past seven years, I have felt so incredibly fortunate to serve as Principal/CEO of our wonderful school, Cherry Creek Academy.  I truly do love this school.

There does, however, come a point in everyone’s life when they have to contemplate what the next chapter looks like. For me, that next chapter will begin August 1 st .

I have a medical condition that is made worse by stress and I am going to heed the advice of my doctors and retire at the end of this current school year.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to lead. I have made so many wonderful connections with so many of the amazing members of the CCA family. The students in this school are the daily reminder of why we do what we do.  I will always consider my years at CCA the highlight of my 30+ year long career.

Sincerely,

Jay Cerny
Principal/CEO Cherry Creek Academy
Cherry Creek Academy Community,

It is with both appreciation and sadness that we announce Mr. Jay Cerny will retire at the end of this 2017-18 school year.

During his seven years as principal, Mr. Cerny elevated our school by focusing on our mission - “Motivated students and responsible parents working together with exemplary teachers for excellent education.”   During his tenure, the school’s academic standards and performance have had tremendous growth, CCA’s reputation in the charter school community is top-notch, the CCA facilities have been through significant improvements, and our financial position is secure and strong.  Mr. Cerny has been an exemplary leader to our teachers and a great mentor for the administrative team.   Mr. Cerny is leaving the school in a much better place than when he entered and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.

The CCA Board and current administrative team have been working on a path forward to maintain our continued growth and high academic standards.  The CCA board is going to start a search for a new leader to continue and build upon our excellent standards.  In the interim, we are confident in Mrs. Mahan, Mr. Hargreaves and Mr. Loomis’ ability to lead the school, along with the rest of our administrative team and wonderful teaching staff.

We welcome people to attend our upcoming board meeting on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 6:00pm in the school library to hear an update.  We have also provided a FAQ to help answer some of your questions.

Sincerely,

Vaidee Mahadevan
Cherry Creek Academy Board President, on Behalf of the CCA Board
Frequently Asked Questions

Who will run the school in Mr. Cerny’s absence?
Over the last year, CCA’s leadership team has been strengthened by adding the Assistant Principals over the Middle School (Mrs. Annemarie Mahan) and Elementary School (Mr. Travis Hargreaves) to provide support to the teachers and day-to-day management of the school.  Mr. Dave Loomis, with his considerable experience, will remain as Dean of Students. Members of the Board of Directors will also be available to help, as required, during this transition period.

When will we have a new Director/CEO?
The Board of Directors will be looking to hire a recruiting firm to help us find top-tier candidates.  Our goal is to have a new Director/CEO in place before the 2019-20 school year. The process must be flexible but this is our best estimate.

Where will you search for a new Director/CEO?
The search committee will cast a nationwide net in an effort to secure the best leader possible to maintain CCA’s success and continue our growth.  CCA is a mature charter school with a wonderful reputation in the industry and Colorado is charter-friendly so we expect to see a good number of candidates once the search becomes public.

Who is on the search committee?
The search committee will be formed as soon as possible and will include Board members, parents, administration and staff.

How will CCA community members know what is going on during the process?
The search committee will post updates in the Eagle and on the CCA website as the search and selection process moves forward.  Updates will also be given during monthly Board meetings – see calendar for dates.
