Shul School need-to-knows
Apr 23-30, 2020
Dear Shul School families,

I've been feeling that life is finally falling into some sort of rhythm, which I'm quite grateful for you. I hope you have been experiencing some of the same.

In addition to regular Shul School programming (see schedule below for details), we want to provide some other opportunities for spiritual community and connection during this time. Feel free to do either or both!
Superpower Treasure Hunt
We're on the journey from Pesah to Shavuot, from physical freedom at the Sea of Reeds to spiritual freedom at Mt. Sinai.

To get to this spiritual freedom, for each of the seven weeks from Pesah to Shavuot we focus on a different superpower we need to feel light and free. Some Rabbis call these superpowers the sefirot, they are like the clothes God wears and we can try them on too!

The first three weeks, we focus on hesed (love or kindness), gevurah (strength), and tiferet (harmony, balance, beauty).

Your assignment, should you choose to accept:

1) Take a walk outside with a digital camera (e.g., a phone). As you walk, notice the world around you.

2) Now, find three things, one each that helps you feel your powers of strength, love, and beauty. Your pictures might be of natural objects (trees, rocks, flowers, etc), people-made objects (buildings, cars, etc.) or people you see or are walking with.

3) When you get home, label the three pictures according to which category they belong to and send them to Ms. Jennie.

All our pictures together will form a collage of our journey. In a few months time, maybe we can even all see it hanging on the wall at Shir Chadash!
The closest thing to a hug
What's the longest you've ever gone without getting a hug, a pat on the back or a kiss on the forehead? Those little gestures of care can bring a big smile to our faces! Many older people are home alone these days, and they don't get so many hugs and kisses. So let's do the next best thing -- send them a smile in an envelope!

Rabbi Silver and Ms. Jennie have put together a list of older folks in our Shir Chadash community who would love to receive a card from you! Here's what you do:

1) Email Ms. Jennie saying you'd like to be paired up with an elder buddy. She'll send you back someone's name and address. If you have a request of someone in the community, please specify the name in the email and we'll do our best.

2) Create a card with something that you think would make someone smile -- maybe you write a joke on it, or a poem, or draw a picture. Here are some great ideas for creative greeting cards.

3) When it's done, take a photo of it and send it to Ms. Jennie. Then put your card in the mail and make someone smile!
