Pleasant Grove Community Church

Good Morning PGCC!

TO BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY
A Devotional Thought by Pastor Phil

"For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"
Galatians 5:14

But when I am told to "stay-at-home," how can I love my neighbor? I don't even get to see my neighbor anymore.

"And then (Jesus) told them,
'Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.'"
Mark 16:15 (NLT)

But how can I "go" when I am told to "stay"? How can we as a church continue the mission of making Christ known to our neighbors, community and world when we are stuck at home?

These are the questions we as a church staff are wrestling with and praying through. These are questions for you to wrestle with and pray about as well.

Fortunately we have a God who says,

"Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save." Isaiah 59:1

God is not confined by stay-at-home orders!

This email is filled with practical ways that God can use YOU to continue carrying out His mission. Below you will find ideas for sending cards, for praying and for donating food. Every one of us can write a short note and every one of us can pray for someone else. You can do it from home. It doesn't even take a lot of time. So please volunteer.

Let's start a wave of ministry from our homes.

We will continue to add ideas and opportunities as we think of more, but don't let our ability to come with ideas limit you. Feel free to come up with ideas that you will do and share them with us so others can join you.
SHARE YOUR ART

Do you have any original art that you created yourself and would like to share? It could be paintings, drawings, crafts, sewing, photography, sock puppets ... If so, send a picture of it to us at 1730pgccoffice@gmail.com .
TODAY IS GIVING THURSDAY
by Lois Coady

God has been so good to us so let’s be sure to honor Him, reach out to others, and continue to financially support the ministry of PGCC.

Give time to reading your Bible and prayer
In my quiet time this morning I looked up several scriptures as God reminded me that He is my refuge (Psalm 62:8 and 91:2) and the more I depend on Him the more effectively He can help me. In fact, times of stress can remind us to seek His face (I Chronicles 16:11). God wants us to tell Him about our struggles. We can share with Him how tired we are being restricted to home, how much we long to be out doing normal things like going out for lunch with a friend, and how desperately we miss spending time with our family (1 Peter 5:7). As I prayed through each of these, I eventually found myself thanking Him for being my refuge, my hiding place, a place of security, comfort and peace. I found myself telling Him how much I love and appreciate Him caring so deeply for me. By the time I finished my quiet time I was reenergized and ready for the day ahead! Join me in spending time in God’s word and in prayer today.

Give time to reach out to someone
Have you heard about our new outreach project to thank all of the employees at our local Raley’s store for their selfless service? Raley’s associates put themselves in harm’s way every day to make sure we have the food and household supplies we need during this global pandemic. They have been faithful in their service and gracious through the difficult times. Let’s take time to express our gratitude to them by writing a note or sending a nice “thank you” card to each of the associates. See the details below.

Continue to give your offering to the Church
We continue to be blessed by all of you! Your notes of encouragement and faithful giving has touched us. Thank you for your continued support of us and ministry through Pleasant Grove Community Church. Please continue to give your tithes and offerings in one of these two ways:

Send a Thank You Note to Our Local Grocery Store Workers!
We Still Need More People to Send Cards

There are 103 employees at the Raley's on Pleasant Grove and Woodcreek Oaks. We have contacted the store and shared with them our idea and they gave us every employee's first name.  Would you be willing to write a thank you note to a few of them?  If enough of us do so, all 103 will be showered with appreciation, which they probably seldom receive, especially in writing. So far we have covered 70 names, but we want to make sure everyone receives at least one card. A big THANK YOU to everyone who has already volunteered!

Here's how:
  1. Contact the office at 1730pgccoffice@gmail.com
  2. Let us know how many cards you want to write (you provide the card or stationary)
  3. We will email you a list of names to write to and give you instructions on how to send the cards or notes.

It will cost you a little time. It may cost you a little money. But what price can you put on sharing the light of Christ and brightening someone's day?

The staff is participating. Our hope is that all of you will participate as well!
NEED PRAYER?
Neighborhood Outreach

We are going to launch a way for people in the community to contact us and ask for prayer.

We need people willing to pray when a prayer request is received.

PLEASE CONTACT US IF INTERESTED  and we will give you the details. You can decide if this is a way you would like to serve God and minister to others. We can't launch this until we have enough volunteers willing to pray.
FOOD BANK DONATIONS
This coming Sunday is when we would normally collect food for the St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank. The need there is unprecedented right now. We will collect food items all week long. Just drop off nonperishable items in the grey container next to the doors on the west side of the church where the drive-thru portico is. Someone will pick up your donations each evening. Get your neighbors involved! Ask them to make donations as well, then offer to pick their donation up and bring it to the church.

 SHOPPING ASSISTANCE
If you are at high-risk and/or not able to do your own grocery shopping, please request assistance through the PGCC Shopping Assistance Program. If you need assistance, please call the church office at 916-771-4447 and someone will contact you to make arrangements to help you.

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU
Do you need help? Someone to talk to? Running out of food or supplies? Please reach out and contact us. We are trying to make sure everyone in our congregation gets a call, just to check in, from someone else in our congregation, but it's a long list and sometimes we have the wrong information. You don't need to wait for a call, you can contact us. We are here for you.
