A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 05 29 18

P arents and Guardians,

I have to admit I have mixed emotions as we enter this final week of school. I am excited for our graduating Seniors, and yet am sad that they are moving on from LHS. On behalf of the staff here at LHS, we truly hope great things for all our Seniors as they transition into this new phase of their lives. We also hope that you can join us for our Class of 2018 Graduation Ceremony that will take place this Saturday, June 2nd at 10 a.m. in the Allen Event Center.

For underclassmen today, students began taking their Final Exams and will continue each day through Friday. Don't forget that Friday is an early release day and students will be dismissed for lunch at 12:00 p.m. and can leave at that time if they have transportation. Students who ride a bus will eat lunch from 12:00 - 1:00 and bus service will run at 1:00.

This Friday, we also invite you to join us at about 10:30 am for our Senior Walk where Senior students will take a final walk through the building and will exit through the courtyard where underclassmen, parents, and others will cheer them on. It is a great celebration, and we would love for you to join us if you can.

Have a great week!

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School

Medications at School - LAST CALL
If your child has medicine at school, please make sure your child has exactly enough medicine to finish the school year. You are responsible for picking up any extra medicine as the school district has a policy against sending medicines home with students. At the end of this school year, any remaining medicines, including inhalers, will be thrown out. The school cannot store these for you during the summer.

Please remember, if your child is going to continue being medicated at school during the 2018-2019 school year, you will need to complete a new medication sheet at that time and bring a SMALL or travel size bottle of medicine that is not expired.

Students to Embark on a Mission Trip
Olivia Bullock, Hannah Karst, and Health Science teacher Mrs. Barnett are traveling to Faridabad, India on a Medical Volunteer Project in late June for 2 weeks. They will be  providing healthcare where it is unavailable, joining forces with PMGY (Plan My Gap Year) to make this volunteer opportunity possible, and will be alongside local doctors providing healthcare in the hospitals and clinics throughout Faridabad. Their mission is to "reach the unreached" and "touch the untouched"(Mark 16:15). They hope to make a difference and impact as many lives as possible. If you're interested in supporting their experience of a life time, click here to connect to their GoFundMe page. Any extra fundraising will be donated to Healthy Hearts 101 Foundation @ St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Plymouth, Michigan. This foundation is very important to Olivia because the founding surgeon, Dr. Manak Sood, saved her grandmother's life. She had a 2% chance of survival, but thanks to Dr. Sood, she is thriving 14 years later!

Important News from Student Nutrition
Regarding Change in Student Meal Accounts
In an effort to help minimize negative balances at the end of the school year, beginning Monday, May 14th, and for the remainder of the school year, students will no longer be able to charge meals which result in the student incurring a negative meal account balance. Students may continue to use their lunch accounts as long as they have a positive meal account balance. Households with students who currently have negative balances will receive reminder emails and phone calls. Federal regulations prohibit us from rolling over negative balances to the next school year. Please arrange to remit payment for any negative lunch accounts your child may have incurred.

All positive balances will be rolled over to next school year. If you have a graduating senior, funds may be transferred to any sibling in the school district. To request a meal account refund, please complete a refund request form, located on the Student Nutrition website . For assistance, please contact us at 469-742-8041 .

The Department of Student Nutrition Services thanks you for your understanding and for allowing us to serve your student(s) this school year.
