You've probably seen red blood before. You may have even seen blue or purple blood.
But have you ever seen green blood?
Researchers at LSU recently discovered a group of lizards in New Guinea that have lime-green blood. Prasinohaema are green-blooded skinks, a type of lizard, that somehow thrive with what would be toxic human levels of biliverdin, a green bile pigment. We humans do have some biliverdin in our blood, but these lizards have levels of biliverdin 40 times higher than those in humans.

LSU Holds 295th Commencement Exercise
This spring, 365 College of Science students officially earned their Tiger stripes as newly minted LSU graduates. The college awarded 320 undergraduate degrees, 19 master's degrees, 22 PhDs, and four graduate certifications during its spring diploma ceremony on May 11. Of the 320 bachelor's degrees awarded by the college, 117 earned Latin Honors, 27 earned the University Medal, the highest academic achievement awarded to graduates with the highest grade point average, and 17 college honors. Rainer Weiss, 2017 Nobel Laureate in Physics, MIT Physics Professor Emeritus and LSU adjunct professor in physics and astronomy, served as the keynote speaker for the College of Science diploma ceremony.

Dean Peterson Named One of the 2018 Top Influential Women in Business
Cynthia Peterson, dean of the LSU College of Science and Seola Arnaud and Richard Vernon Edwards Jr. Professor, has been named among the city's top Influential Women in Business by the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report. She joins nine other Capital Region women who will be recognized at the 2018 Influential Women in Business Awards luncheon June 6 at the Crowne Plaza Baton Rouge.

PBS has launched a
"NOVA Wonders" series that discusses how far scientist have come to understand the world around us, from the depths of outer space to the inner workings of human bodies. The latest episode in the series featured LSU's own
Tabetha Boyjian. The program delves into the biggest question scientists have as they make discoveries deeper and deeper into the universe:
"Are We Alone?" The program will also discuss what it would mean if, in fact, there is life elsewhere in the cosmos.
