A Message from the Director

We had an active May around here. The new free ice for guest's program started, the sidewalks to Huckleberry and Salal were completed, a new oven installed in the kitchen and the new water bottle filling station was installed in the lobby. All while hosting more guests than May 2017.

Jan Viney and Arnie Marcus volunteered and painted the front deck of the Inn and in their spare time refinished a few benches. Thank you to these great volunteers and friends!

The Seabeck 520 event was a lot of fun. Over 100 people enjoyed touring the grounds, hearing The Independents sing, and getting a little preview of the new Pines. Even with all that, I imagine the highlight was the delicious salmon bake. Thanks to all who attended. I hope to see you all back for the ribbon cutting.

I toured the portable school classrooms that will be up for sale on June 5th. I found two perfect units that will work great in the Rhododendron space. These temporary buildings will provide much needed meeting areas during the Pines construction. They will be removed shortly after Pines is completed. If I am the successful bidder, the larger meeting area will be at least 25' x 60'. That is about 300 sq. ft. larger than the existing Pines room. We will also install some kitchen equipment.

Mark Regan has finished his first month as Food Service Director and is getting comfortable in his new role. Gary Chamberlin is readying for a move to Las Vegas in July. We are hosting a reception for Gary and his wife Cherrie on Sunday June 3rd from 3-5 pm in the Dining Room. We will have lots of food and drinks available. Please stop by and say thank you and goodbye to Gary.

The campus looks great as we head into summer! I hope to see you here soon!

Thanks,
Chuck

There were 5 tent cabins on the Seabeck grounds in the past. Huckleberry and Salal were 2 of them and the our newest buildings were named after them.

Can anyone name the other three ten cabins?

UPDATE:
Does Anyone Know What This Is?

We have received some answers to this questions, but none of them are the same. Still not sure what the right answer is!
  • My husband thinks it was used for welding. Rod held in place by screws and clip went to grounding. (Tim Thompson)
  • That is a spark tester for sparkplugs and magnetos (John Loveless)
  • Hello....my husband, a mechanic, says the part found in a drawer is part of an automotive coil tester. (Laurie Brady)

  • Something attached to a rope to hold ties or sails on a boat. (Del Richardson)

Send Us Your Seabeck Story!

Seabeck has a long history and many of our guests have been coming here for a very long time. There are many Seabeck stories to tell and we want to hear them. We will post them in upcoming News & Views.

Here are some stories that have been sent to us:

Hello everyone! Kenzie here,

Not sure how many of you guys remember me from a few years back. I worked at the conference center for 6 years before I graduated college. I used the money I saved up for college.

Since I moved out I found a job 3d modeling near Norfolk, Virginia. I've been over here for a little over a year now.  But that's not really what I wanted to write about.

I now play Saxophone and Clarinet semi-professionally with a local group performing at festivals and events on my spare time and I honestly couldn't have done it without the conference center.  The various guest groups that would come by and ask me to play for them honestly gave me the confidence to get on a stage.

Thank you to Seabeck conference center and the July Eliot group (the first group I played for).

I hope you're on your way to having a great summer.

Sincerely,
McKenzie Steven
