Member Spotlight: Jake Hampton
Name :
Jake Hampton
Teaching Area:
Powersports and Small Engine Repair
School:
College of Western Idaho
How long have you been teaching?
Completed my first year, May 12th.
Are you from Industry?
Yes, I have been in the Powersports industry since 2003, and spent a large portion of that career at Carl's Cycle Sales in Boise, Idaho.
What do you enjoy most about your job? Being an instructor has been very rewarding. Seeing students acquire skills and information that they will use throughout their lives and help better themselves as employees and members of society.
Why would you encourage a new teacher to engage in their teacher association? There are many great organizations that we have access to as educators, finding the group that can help advance and improve your skills is a must. As a new educator I'm still trying to sort out my style and techniques to convey messages to students. Many of these organizations have talented educators that enjoy collaborating with new instructors like myself.
If you could change one thing about your classroom environment, what would it be? I'm fortunate to have a great facility at CWI that is one of the premier setups in the State and Region for instructing students on repairing equipment.
What is something about you that would surprise people? I have a 1960 Olson Kurbside Stepvan project I'm working on, and enjoy getting old trucks and motorcycles back on the road after years of storage.
What is something you would like to learn to do? I am always trying to better myself and become familiar with various tasks and trades. I would love to take some classes from our Welding and Machine Tool programs at CWI, they have some talented instructors with very high levels of knowledge they could share.
What is one of your goals? To improve my skills as an instructor and help students achieve their goals and introduce them to a great industry that can provide a high quality of life.
