MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES:
Online help for students and families
|
The outbreak of COVID-19 can result in stress, especially for students who may be struggling to process fear and anxiety related to the virus. FVSD's Support Services team of School Counselors and School Psychologists has compiled information on our site which may be helpful for students and families. Included are resources for talking to students about COVID-19 and coping with stress. Moreover, links and information on FVSD's mental health and wellness resources, including CareSolace, Outreach Concern and our middle school counselors, are available. Lastly, there are a number of community healthy partners and emergency resources included for our families. For all of our mental health and wellness resources, please visit our site here.

HIGHLIGHT: FV Rotary Club Purchases Grocery Gift Cards to Support FVSD Families
|
For years, the Fountain Valley Rotary Club has been a significant supporter within our community as well as within our school district! From recognizing students who have made improvements through its Most Improved Student Recognitions, to honoring our Teachers of the Year at an annual breakfast, to celebrating students through our Every Student Succeeding ceremony, the FV Rotary Club is always there to help and provide resources, where needed. In fact, most recently, the Club made thousands of face shields to ensure our workers on the front lines have increased levels of protection from COVID-19. And, it should be no surprise that when the FV Rotarians found out that some of our families would benefit from some additional resources for their basic needs, they stepped in and purchased over $8,000 in grocery cards.
When asked, FV Rotary Club President, Mark Bryant, offered this statement, "
When I first spoke with FVSD officials
, when the Stay At Home orders due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic first began, we discussed what Rotary, and specifically our local Fountain Valley Rotary Club, could do to help FVSD help the families in our community and School District during this time of extreme economic difficulty. This is what Rotary does -- to raise funds and provide services toward Rotary's "Service Above Self" motto -- and being able to do this to assist families in our own community struggling to get by right now. Providing these grocery gift cards seemed like a great way to give some immediate help to the families most in need."
Simply remarkable...and we are all extremely grateful to those who generously donated to this effort!
If you are an FVSD family who could use some support, please reach out to your student's principal and they will help you to make the connection.

SPOTLIGHT: Construction Continues to Go Well at Phase 2 Schools
|
Measure O construction projects continue to move forward during school dismissals. With construction considered an essential part of the workforce, we are proud to share our current progress at Cox, Tamura and Fulton Schools. At this time, there is a little more work to be completed at Tamura, mostly in the portables as all sections of the main campus have been completed. At Cox, we are getting closer to finishing the final phase, installing windows in the core building, and hope to have that project near completion in the coming weeks. And at Fulton, we are tearing off the roof in their Multi-Purpose Room, installing windows in two core areas, and are finishing demolition work on the next phase of construction.
We want to continue extending our deepest gratitude to the entire FVSD Community, who came together in 2016 to pass Measure O, a general obligation bond that is funding our program. We are all extremely grateful!

UPDATE: Meals for Students to be Distributed Monday/Wednesday/Friday beginning May 4th
|
Beginning Monday, May 4th, meal distribution for students will take place Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12PM-1PM at Cox, Oka and Tamura Schools.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided. On Mondays and Wednesdays, children will receive meals for two days. On Fridays, children will receive meals for one day. This program will be solely for the pickup of meals and meals will not be consumed on site. We encourage families to continue to be proactive in reducing the risk of COVID-19 by not congregating at the school site once meals have been distributed.
