Today is Memorial Day, the day most of us know of as the first day of the summer season and, indeed it is.

  

In reality, though, it has far greater significance.  It is a day set aside for us to remember those soldiers who gave their lives fighting to keep us, the citizens of the United States free.

  

Freedom is not free no matter how much we wish it were.  There is always someone who wants and will do literally anything to have what we have or, if not have, take away what we have.  If we are not ready, willing and able to defend and protect it, we will lose it.  This has been true throughout human history.

  

  

Let us remember those fallen heroes who gave their all so that we might live free, be able to say what we want, do what we want and worship how we want without fear of retribution.
