The World Needs Visionaries
A Message from the President

Claflin Family and Supporters:

We pray that you are staying safe and healthy during this COVID-19 pandemic. Although this unprecedented health crisis has dramatically impacted our lives, it has not altered Claflin University's commitment to providing high-quality academic programs to our students.

During the past few weeks, administrators, faculty, staff and students have embraced change and been resolute in supporting the following initiatives:
  • Transitioning to a 100 percent online learning model on March 23, 2020.
  • Assisting students with evacuating the residence halls to minimize the spread of COVID-19 on the Claflin campus. Nearly all of our students have returned home.
  • Cancelling all remaining Spring 2020 activities and events.
  • Rescheduling Spring Commencement until December 2020.
  • Closing offices to all visitors and the public to protect the safety and health of our employees. Only essential staff are reporting to campus to work modified schedules. Other employees are working via online collaboration platforms.
Claflin's focus on student success, in conjunction with a request by the Student Government Association, was the catalyst for creating the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund. Proceeds will support front-line needs for the students, which includes providing laptops, software, internet access and other tools that make online learning possible.

Thanks to your support, the Relief Fund has provided 50 new laptops and approximately 30 hotspot devices to students, enhancing the online academic experience for these visionary scholars.

Together we will continue to make "Claflin Magic" and when this crisis has ended, we know that we all will be stronger as an institution committed to excellence!

With Panther Pride,

Dr. Dwaun J. Warmack
