2020 Real Estate Annual Awards Banquet Postponed
We are sorry to announce that the spring 2020 banquet is being postponed due to the concern over the Caronavirus  (COVID-19) and the cancelling of all UCONN spring 2020 student activities and events.  We hope to reschedule to a future time and will announce the date as soon as determined.  We wish you well and hope all our students, alumni, partners and associates stay healthy and safe. 




Spring 2020 RE Society Company Presentations
CB Richard Ellis

On February 24 2020, CB Richard Ellis was on campus to present  to students.  Mark Fisher, Senior Vice President of Debt & Structured Finance in the New York Office, presented a unique project and perspective to the Real Estate Students. 

Students were able to take a deep dive into a complex project with many external challenges and strategies that were implemented to mitigate it. The case gave students a bigger picture of real estate and showed some different challenges that may arise. 

CBRE is the top-ranked firm for commercial real estate investment sales globally for the ninth consecutive year, according to Real Capital Analytics (RCA).
RERC

On March 3, 2020 The Real Estate Society hosted  RERC and UConn alumni , Andrew Sabatini, Managing Director,   Jennifer Layton, VP Valuation and Management, Brian Patterson, Valuation Analyst, and Anthony Riccio, Intern.  The visitors had dinner with the Real Estate Society Executive Board followed by the presented to the Real Estate Society.

In a Q&A style meeting, our guests were able to share their day to day objectives in their role with the company and highlighted individual career paths.

Cornet Global
On March 9, 2020, Scott Tibbo, Global Partnership Director at JLL, Phillip Starks, Property Manger at Our Piece of the Pie, and Michael Byrne, Corporate Real Estate Director at Travelers, represented CoreNet Global Connecticut Westchester Chapter.  

The group discussed what corporate real estate is and the wide range of opportunities and careers in this sector of real estate.  Beyond this, they showed the benefits and networking opportunities within CoreNet Global. 

The mission of CoreNet Global is to advance the practice of corporate real estate through professional development opportunities, publications, research, conferences, and chapters and networking groups. 

February 26, 2020 SIOR UCONN Basketball Event


On February 26, SIOR CT/W. MA Chapter hosted the SIOR-UCONN Basketball pre-game reception and game.  The Event was attended by approximately 40  SIOR Chapter Members and UCONN real estate students.   Chapter President, Art Ross, Senior Managing Director, Newmark Knight Frank and Mark Duclos, SIOR President, President, Sentry Commercial Real Estate,  gave opening remarks followed by brief comments by Real Estate Center Director, John Glascock.  Special thanks to Phil Gagnon for helping to make this event happen. 

The reception was followed by UCONN Men's 81-65 victory over the University of Central Florida Basketball Game.

Appraisal Institute - RE Center Economic Update
On Thursday, March 5, 2020, the Real Estate Center and the Appraisal Institute held a 2 hour continuing education credit opportunity for those in appraisal.  John Glascock filled the time discussing the economic outlook of the local and national view. Real estate students took the opportunity to sit in on the presentation and earn 2 hours of continuing ed credit. 

T he educational update was followed by a reception and an exciting  77-71 UCONN Men's victory over Houston.  

Special thanks to real estate appraisal instructors, Fred Richard and Sean Hagearty,  and Jacqueline Beauchaine, Executive Director, Connecticut Appraisal Institute for helping to coordinate this event. 




2020 Student Placement
The Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies is assisting students to find full-time or internship placement for 2020. Real estate students are in the process of completing what many consider to be one of the best academic real estate programs in the country. 

We understand these are uncertain times  and due to the recent COVID-19 situation, we are asking companies to let us know or confirm if they are interested or still planning to take on interns and/or new hires for summer 2020.  You can reach out directly to Debbie Philips at debbie.philips@uconn.edu.
