SENATE PASSES BUDGET BILL, SETTING UP FACE-OFF OVER FATE OF BUSINESS INCOME DEDUCTION
The Senate unanimously passed its version of HB 166, the state's operating budget. The House refused to accept the Senate's changes, setting up a conference committee that will decide the differences between their two versions - and ultimately the fate of the business income deduction.

SENATE HEARS OHIO CHAMBER'S CONCERNS ABOUT PENDING BWC BUDGET BILL
The Ohio Chamber of Commerce recently testified in front of the Senate Insurance and Financial Institutions Committee in opposition to the House passed version of the Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) budget bill, HB 80.

HOUSE BILL COULD POSE COMPLICATIONS FOR BUSINESSES' OPERATIONS
Last week, the Ohio Chamber of Commerce gave testimony on HB 221 which, if enacted, would enable anonymous wage discrimination complaints to be made with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. This poses potential complications for businesses' operations.

CENTRALIZED MUNICIPAL TAXATION COLLECTION LAWSUIT CONTINUES
Last week, the state of Ohio filed a motion asking the Ohio Supreme Court to dismiss the appeal filed by the plaintiffs in the City of Athens v. McClain lawsuit. This appeal is discretionary, and the Ohio Supreme Court can decide to not hear the case and allow the decision of the appellate court to stand.
