APRIL 2020
Mental Health is health
Agencies are prepared and ready to serve those in need.

The County of Summit Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADM) Board is working in tandem with its provider agencies to ensure continuity of care for our local mental health and addiction system during the COVID-19 crisis.

If you or someone you care about is in need of support, don't wait ! Mental health and addiction treatment are essential healthcare services, especially during this difficult time.

  • Essential services, including 24-hour crisis services/detox at the ADM Crisis Center and Psychiatric Emergency Services, are open and operating to serve those with a mental health or addiction crisis.
  • Residential treatment is open and accepting new patients.
  • Outpatient programs are operating, using telehealth to connect with patients.
  • Medication services, such as MAT (Medication-Assisted Treatment) and other pharmacy programs treating those with mental illness will continue; prescribers will be reaching out to patients to advise of any changes and/or special instructions.

Local Americorps VISTA awarded
high honor for service
ADM Board has hosted VISTAs for the past two years

Congratulations are in order for our own Christina Bass (pictured left) , Americorps VISTA and ROSC Coordinator. The Ohio Association for Justice and the Ohio Supreme Court are recognizing Christina for completing over 300 hours of pro bono service. Additionally, she was selected as the Community and Pro Bono Publico Service Student of the Year for completing the most service hours in her graduating class.

Christina’s service year as the ROSC Coordinator focused on implementation as well as surveying cultural competency at the Board and throughout our system of care. ROSC (Recovery Oriented System of Care) recognizes many paths to recovery by building on community networks to ensure a continuum of care that is person-centered, timely, accountable and efficient, and equitable.

In addition to over 1,000 hours at the ADM Board, Christina volunteered at Akron Law's Reentry Clinic, assisting clients who have a criminal conviction in applying for a Certificate of Qualification for Employment (CQE). A CQE helps remove barriers to finding a job by lifting certain sanctions that prevent people from getting a job. Summing up her year of service Christina adds, “I've learned that sometimes people find themselves in situations they never would have imagined or wanted to be in. I think people deserve the opportunity to re-write their stories.”
