A Word from Andrew... Memorial Day Weekend, Trinity Sunday, and God's Water Wheel of Love...
Early on in the classic American novel "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Nick describes the coming summer:
"And so with sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with summer."
This Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial launch of summer, but we have experienced all kinds of new beginnings and milestones this month, including:
- The launch of our visionary new art gallery that reflects what we care about in our missions and ministries
- The "soft launch" and rollout of our church's new logo (spiritual symbol) and tagline (mantra) last Sunday that reflects, enhances, and complements our congregation's core values (*We will phase in our new symbol and mantra in the coming weeks in all PSC communications)
- The graduation of 10 of our preschool students in our Off Broadway Preschool of Fine Arts yesterday
Like so many of you, I feel new life and energy in our church flowing like a river growing deeper and stronger every day.
This Sunday we will celebrate Trinity Sunday, and we will deepen our understanding of the practical matters of the mysterious and classic (and sometimes downright baffling!) spiritual meaning of what Christians call the Trinity---God as three in one and one in three.
Bonaventure - the supreme mystic philosopher, gives several metaphors for the Trinity - one is the fountain fullness of love pictured as a water wheel - three buckets on a moving water wheel. Each bucket empties out and then swings back. The reason it can empty out is that it knows it will be filled.
Even as we feel the spiritual river moving and flowing at Pine Street Church, we embrace God as the infinite water wheel of love---moving, flowing, and always ready to fill our own spiritual buckets as we empty them for the purpose of embracing everyone, inspiring life, and creating more!
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I look forward to seeing you Sunday.
With heart,
Andrew

Ryan Connell's 10th Anniversary!
Did you realize that our beloved organist/pianist/co-music director has been faithfully serving our church for ten years?
We have been incredibly blessed with Ryan's musical gifts and talents of playing organ and piano. As an integral part of the Pine Street Church band, he also sometimes has played keyboard, drums, bells, and whatever else has been needed! We are regularly privileged to enjoy his own creative and beautiful compositions and arrangements. Thank you, God, for Ryan!! Where would we be without him???
June 3 will be "
Give Thanks for Ryan Day!" We will recognize Ryan's ten years and show our appreciation with a reception and a monetary love gift.
You may contribute to this love gift by giving cash or a check made out to Mary Beth Mankin (memo line: for Ryan). If you do not connect with me, you may leave your clearly marked contribution in the church office by May 30, and David will get it to me. We want Ryan and his family to know how special he is to all of us!!
Looking forward to this joyous celebration!
With thanks,
Mary Beth Mankin, Moderator
